." >>> i'm jericka duncan in new york. thanks so much for staying with us.six weeks the nation has been transfixed by the murder trial of once prominent south carolina lawyer alex murdaugh. murdaugh was convicted of killing his wife and son and sentenced to life in prison. he's currently held at what's called a reception center in columbia, south carolina, awaiting his transfer to one of the state's maximum security prisons. murdaugh's lawyers are vowing to appeal his conviction all the way to the supreme court if necessary. nikki battiste has a look back at the trial. token fiery red hair, it was hard to believe the towering lean somber man who was paraded into this south carolina courtroom for the past six weeks and was bold enough to testify in his own defense -- >> i didn't shoot my wife or my son anytime. ever. >> reporter: is the same person as this heavyset jovial-looking dad, smiling next to his wife and two sons a few years ago. the question remains who is alex murdaugh? >> guilty verdict. >> reporter: the jury's answer on thursday, after just three

." >>> i'm jericka duncan in new york. thanks so much for staying with us.ons of college and high school students are making the annual trek to florida for spring break. but this year the fun in the sun is being shadowed by trouble on the beach. red tide, a huge plume of toxic algae, is killing fish by the millions. they wash ashore, leaving a foul-smelling mess that can cause breathing problems. and if that's not enough, a massive blob of seaweed more than 1,000 miles wide is predicted to hit the gulf coast beaches in the coming weeks. manuel bojorquez has more on that story. >> reporter: it is as foul-smelling as it is unsightly. sea life dead and washed ashore, essentially choked by an algae bloom known as red tide. they appear to be cleaned up on this beach in naples on florida's gulf coast. the smell that lingered didn't stop tourists like melanie colter of wisconsin. >> when we were walking from our car here i'm like oh, what is that stench? >> reporter: but on a bad day red tide can have an impact on tourism. as businesses here are still recovering fr

jericka duncan reports. >> reporter: crypto kiosks are popping up all over the country, mostly in gass. due to loose regulations, police say they're becoming more popular with scammers who use them to steal money from people. and there is often no way of getting that money back. and you call this? >> cell. reporter: i his life, artist joseph samuels never thought he'd fall victim to a scam. has anything like this ever happened to you before? >> in my entire life, i would never. it is crazy. put me in the hospital for a week. i've never been sick in a day of my life. >> reporter: in october of 2021, samuels thought he was calling his computer company's i.t. department. during the call, he granted someone access to fix his computer remotely, and it worked. but a couple of months later, he says he got a call from someone claiming to be from the same i.t. department. he says they told him they accidentally deposited $20,000 and demanded he send it back through a bitcoin atm. >> and they're calling me you got to pay us back. otherwise we're going get the fbi. >> reporter: fearful of what c
