you know, jermaine's talking about the images that you most likely saw today, in the newspaper. if you watch television online, while you were at work, chaos in the streets of missouri, in the united states. i want to bring in the former st. louis police chief. you know, some of these images that we've seen are pretty striking. you have an american battlefield, in a sense, some of these images. look at this picture here. iraq on the left, ferguson, missouri, on the right. there are many others like this when you see police in full tear gas mode with protesters. here's obviously two soldiers with gun, one in iraq, and one a police officer in ferguson, missouri. how is it possible that this situation merits that sort of a response? >> well, they are striking images for the united states. we usually don't see that type of response in our country. what i think is that both the protesters and the police got locked in this cycle of escalation. unfortunately, there were no lines of communication between the two, and so we are where we are today. >> so what do you think about the point

his mother jermaine bell was overcome with brief. >> he was a great individual. everybody who knew him loved him. he's a member of the united house of prayers. he used to play in the band. >> reporter: the accident at 4:00 in the morning awoke residents of a nearby senior's home. >> i heard boom. all i seen stuff flying in the air. >> reporter: d.c. police emtake sietz they were not in pursuit of bobby kirkland. there was no chase involved here but there was a lot of speed involved. even if you're going the speed limit, this is a very complicated intersection. there's florida avenue, h street, 15th street and bladensburg back there. it's a very complicated intersection within the speed limit. >> there was some damage from this pole being pushed into among the conditions, the companies must conduct extensive background checks on drivers. anyone convicted of a serious crime will not be allowed to become a driver. the maryland public service commission ruled uber is subject to the same regulations as others in the state and the commission will have new rules for the

. >> jermaine, this all happened in the wake of the michael brown shooting. unlike the ferguson police, the st. louis police, they were very quick to release information about this. do you think they have been transparent? >> no, they appear to be transparent on the day of the incident, don. but since that day, i've been unable to reach chief dobson by phone. i've called him a number of times. the latest time being today. he still has not returned my phone call. and on the day of this incident, he gave an erroneous account of what happened. we had the tape. everyone had seen the tape. he said that he described the incident as kajieme attacking the police officers with a gun up in the air. anyone who sees the tape knows kajieme hands remained at his waist side the entire time. >> you mean a knife? >> excuse me? >> you said a gun. you mean a knife? >> yeah, i do mean a knife. if he had a knife, after viewing the tape, and i viewed this tape at least about 50 times, don, i don't see a knife. however, i do hear the police officers telling him to put a knife down.

joining me now is jermaine lee. what's the feeling and vibe and senation on the ground right now?i was in another town, sanford florida in the wake of a killing of an unarmed black man. tension had been boiling over for years. it is not dissimilar from some situation. this is a collection of small communities under the thumb of what they allege is police abuses and long history of disrust within the community. michael brown's killing tipped it over and lifted the lid off the pot. young people disaffected are upset. it spilled over into violence. the thing now where do they go from here? we talk about resources and talk about issues in the schools, it's no different than detroit or chicago or camden, new jersey. here in this town of st. louis that does not have a history of allowing violence to unif you recall in response to these issues, we see it here. people are still angry and now it's where do they go from here. >> is it fair for people -- and we heard the reverend al sharpton talk about violence would be smir krch this young m. it has to be checked and challenged, is it fair

. >> and of course, jermaine, it's precisely that.ove people here out of their minds, because it was like, here we go again, and here is the message to the folks here who want to engage in backlash politics about all of this, that this kid is who he thought he was. >> and people immediately saw it and started calling out for what they thought it was. a smoke screen. people were angered and for a moment, seeing that it was going to kind of disrupt all of the peace that we've seen, the night before, people were so angry that we had to be concerned. what's going to happen now? but, again, that sentiment is exactly why the people feel they've been cloistered into this community. abuses by the police, feeling they haven't been treated failure. the whole city council is white, but for one black person. there are 53 people on the police force and only three black people. that sentiment we're getting and add that to the motivation we saw a few nights ago -- >> and the point, julie, from your piece is the reason the pressures are the way they
