governor jerry brown signed the new state budget this afternoon. at 6:00, ktvu's consumer editor tom vacar is live in san leandro. he broke down the numbers to show us how the state's loss in billions is going to benefit you. >> reporter: regardless of deals and discounts, cars and just about everything else got less expensive. here is what you get. as of midnight the state will collect .25 percent less from your paycheck. for a single taxpayer making $100,000 a year the savings will be $240 a year. twenty dollars a month. married couples making the same amount will save $650 a year. consumers will pay 1 cent less costing the state 1.5 billion. so on a $1,200 tv set, you will pay $10 less.

arnold schwarzenegger and jerry brown favor same-sex marriage. they did not want to appeal the ban. the sponsors want to go into court directly and the court is saying, you guys are not the attorney general, you are not the governor, what are you doing? he did not have standing in that they are saying yes we do and the judge is saying, show me. under state law, only the governor and attorney general to appeal this. the court is saying, we are a federal court, this is a state court to issue. been one guidance from the supreme court. the argument on intersex is going to be, do they have legal standing? the thing is, this could open a pandora's box. this is going to potentially to the authority away from the governor and the attorney general. i am not sure the courts will want to do that or if state law will allow that. this could get appealed and go to the california supreme court. oddly enough, this case may not stand for same-sex marriage, this case might be new case law for standing up proponents of these initiatives. ironically, that is where this could be going. >> this could go
