. >> jerry nadler took to the floor yesterday to blast the speaker on sandy relief. as governor christie says, october 29th has been a long time ago. 66 days. house speaker boehner has scheduled that vote tomorrow for $15 billion, followed by a vote january 15th for the remaining $51 billion requested. this first vote is expected to pass. any guarantee boehner will be able to corral his members to pass the second part? >> there's no guarantee. we certainly hope so. the idea of splitting the vote originally into the $27 billion, which we figured everybody would vote for and $33 billion additional, which we figured all the democrats would vote for and they would be able to round up maybe 40 republican votes because a lot of the republicans wouldn't vote for it, even though it was demonstrably necessary, i still think that arithmetic holds and i hope so. after katrina, we voted the aid in ten days. normally it takes 15, 20 days. it's been nine weeks and counting. what the speaker just did is delay it another two to three weeks. it's not available the 15th. the senate ha

the blogosphere is on fire as a way to pay down the debt, a big story in the huffington post, jerry nadlerlet's debunk this move to repay the u.s. death. here is the problem. inflation. any time you print any money the u.s. dollar will get devalued in the united states. you also trigger currency market chaos, problems in the precious-metals market not to mention speculators in platinum, treasury market volatility, this is the big one. a constitutional crisis because here is the deal. congress has the power to spend. congress getting in on the act to get the ederal reserve to mend more money in the form of platinum. cheryl: in the constitution can a make platinum a true currency? liz: i don't think they can on the trillion dollar level. the other problem when the federal reserve accepts that, to wipe out or raise the treasury debt the federal reserve loans, getting paid platinum coins, regional banks, the fed regional banks and the federal reserve. jpmorgan, we get rid of your treasury debt in exchange for a lot of platinum coins. cheryl: long road nearly impossible for them to do this but

bill: jerry nadler, a congressman from here in new york. he was the one said it was being used for political blackmail. that is where the comment came from. the debt ceiling has been in place since 1939. you have competing ideas, one on the house, john boehner said we'll raise the debt sealing a dollar for every dollar you cut spending. republicans out of pennsylvania, pat toomey you prioritize the bills you pay for long period of time. weeks and months. make sure the military is taken care of. >> sure. bill: would you back house idea or senate idea or neither? >> i think both are part of the negotiation strategy. i think john boehner's plan to bring down spending dollar for dollar makes a lot of sense and i think pat toomey's does. you don't want to cut very things most critical to the u.s. there is lot of garbage spending in government, believe me, bill, when i say that. why would you make the critical spending the first things you're going to cut except just to hold the country hostage. that is what the democrats are threatening. it does

jerry lander. the speaker pro tempore: the gentleman from new york is recognized for one minute. without objection. mr. nadler: thank you, madam speaker. the gimmick neighboring ture of this whole thing i won't elaborate on. it's been done before. the fact that this provision withholding pay from members of congress is unconstitutional as it varies members' pay is obvious. the argument that withholding pay for a year and a half or a year and 3/4 is not varying compensation, it's actually laughable and beneath respect. secondly, this is institutionalized bribery and extortion. it should never be considered. what this provision says is if you vote the way we think you ought to vote, you'll get paid. if you vote the way we think you should not vote, you will not get paid. that's why we have this provision in the constitution. we should not be bribing members. we should not say to a member, if you think the budget before you is not good for the country, vote against it and you won't get paid. if you think it's good -- not good for the country, you better vote for it because you have a mortgage payment coming due.
