the funeral and ceremony continues in jerusalem as well. a short while ago, the prime minister betnetanyahu spoke. he was referring to the attacks a couple years ago now in which an islamist gunman attacked french jews there and referred to the islamic terror he called it as a threat to the peace of the world. he also said it was striking the heart of french jury in particular. as these four individual bodies are being brought back to israel for their funerals he also said that today, israel is the home of these people. it was their homecoming the lives of individuals cut down as he said by hatred and the attackers he described not just as enemies of the jewish people but as enemies of the world. also the leader of the opposition has been speaking. we are going to be speaking to our correspondent who is in jerusalem. she is being introduced to some of the family and friends of the victims of that attack in paris last week. we are going to come back in a moment for you on "bbc world news." >>> let me just bring you up to date on the other ne

we are joined from west jerusalem to talk about what happened in tel aviv. >> well what we know is it that this attack happened at 7:15am, local time in tel aviv. the attacker boarded the company bus line number 40 on bagan road in tel aviv. what he did first is he stopped the 55-year-old bus driver who is in serious condition, who is inside the bus, and then stabbed other passengers. he fled the scene and was caught and apprehended 400m away from where this happened. he was shot in the leg, injured and not killed. according to the police he is being interrogated now. we understand of the 13, four are in serious condition. three were moderately wounded and six lightly wounded. we heard from the israeli internal security minister who said that this man from the occupied west bank was inside israel without a work visa. the last time such an attack a stabbing attack happened in tel aviv was last know a few months ago, when an israeli soldier was killed whilst struggling with an attacker that stabbed him to gath. death -- to death. >> what do we know about the background of this man, and

it was an emotional morning in jerusalem.n fact we just wrapped up the official ceremony of the four jews killed in the terror attack on friday. they are being buried in a private ceremony just with their family members. it was a very somber occasion. we heard from officials including the israeli president as well as prime minister members of the opposition including french minister who traveled with the bodies here to israel to have them buried. but above all, the message that was coming out today was one of grief for families as well as the country. the entire nation was mourning. more importantly the prime minister and president expressed concern about the growing anti-semitism that plagued countries like france and the rest of europe saying israel will always open its arms to jews around the world. the atmosphere was, in fact one of sorrow. people we saw showing solidarity and expressing sympathy for the families of those terror attacks. we saw people with placards that said je suis charlie, the expression with solidarity

israeli leaders are expected to attend the funerals in jerusalem.ow live with the latest. ian, this is of course a somber day for israel after days of tragedy and terror in paris, what's the scene there in jerusalem as the people of israel prepare to bury these four victims of the attack? >> you're right, rosemary it is a somber day here in jerusalem, the bodies arrived early morning hours to the airport just outside of tel aviv. they are transported to here in jerusalem, and the road that leads to the cemetery is lined with israeli and french flags. the ceremony. the funeral is going to take place around noon. that's 5:00 a.m. eastern time. we are expecting dozens of politicians and dignitaries, the israeli prime minister and president will be there. they'll be -- we're expecting quite a long service, there will be a lot of eulogies from different people. but really there day is about the friends and families saying good-bye to their loved ones. >> most definitely. ian, even before these heinous attacks, french jews had already been packing up and

lisa -- on the line from jerusalem. lisa what information have you been able to pull together from this attack? >> reporter: rosemary this of the start of the rush hour in israel. we're told children women, and soldiers, all passengers on this bus. israeli police spokesmen tell cnn nine people were stabbed, wounded by the man on the bus the palestinian man. of those three, one seriously wounded. the rest of the injuries range from moderately to lightly wounded. now mickey rosenfeld tells us the man was shot while getting off the bus trying to escape. he is under arrest. and that suspect is a 23-year-old palestinian. authorities interrogating him now to see if he was working with anybody else. so far they haven't found anything indicating that. police are searching the area as a precaution but haven't found anything else disturbing yet. for now, tel aviv obviously on high alert as is jerusalem. >> yeah. totally understand that. of course you've given us the background there. this 24-year-old suspect, what more do we know

atika shubert now live from jerusalem. you know we know these four victims are going to be laid to rest this morning local time. prime minister netanyahu is scheduled to speak as is the president of israel. what more can you tell us about the schedule of events? >> reporter: we're expecting that funeral to begin in about three hours. we'll be hearing from the prime minister president, opposition leader and the french minister. we'll hear from leading rabbis who will read from the book of psalms and will hear a traditional morning prayer read by members of the families of the four victims. what's important here this is a state funeral. you see they're just setting up. you can probably hear the sound checks, and they're moving thing around. it's unusual that civilians would be given a state funeral like this. and this is clearly a way for the government to offer condolences to the victims of the attack. they're not the only french victims. in 2013 of course there was the attack on a jewish school. the victims of that attack
