steve: joining us, we have jess and josh gerstein. the president expects another supreme court vacancy this summer. what do you expect? leonard: i think the white house always has to be prepared for this. steve: with the nomination of neil gorsuch, and that any mind of democrats who have to consider him or someone else, what does that mean in terms of the politics we will face in the coming? -- in the coming months? viewed in terms of other vacancies. as theould be doing this scalia seat. it does not change the balance of the court, conservative versus liberal. but because of the way the base on the left is angry about the election and so forth, i think there's a real chance this will be a fight and possibly even a filibuster. steve: let's turn to jess bravin from "the wall street journal." jess: if this is the scalia seat, if the next vacancy is one of the more liberal members or justice kennedy, that has the possibility of changing the direction of the court. do you expect we will see another very strong conservative nominee should

it was an altercation that began on the road with horns and jess turz skainkd and escalated when police say one car began to follow the other. around 10 p.m. saturday former upper gwynedd police officer owen farmer got a call from his stepdaughter telling him he was being tailed by bmw and to standby with a gun outside their west point home. according to police documents when she arrived to the 1900 block of second street with the bmw behind her a confrontation ensued during which farmer told investigators the bmw ran over his foot. now inside of that bmw was a family, mother, who was drivin driving, father and their 1 15-year-old daughter, police say as the driver sped off he fired three shots one travrming through the passenger seat and hitting the 15-year-old girl in the back. she was treated at the hospital and later released. farmer has been charged with two counts of aggravated and simple assault and three counts of reckless endangerment. >> i spoke with the father of the victim tonight. again, he was in the vehicle at the time. he chose not to comment on the incident. reporting l

jess comes from a troubled background and she has gotten into trouble. boy is a romanian immigrant with all that entails. there is this threat of him going home, so they are really going through quite a crisis, both of them. does theirfriendship get them through it? i suppose so. i think that their friendship is the only thing they have at the end. jess initially looks like she has a lot in her life, she appears to have a family and friends at school, but when that all starts to unravel, and we see really what is going on withjess, and the boy steps up to save her in some ways. i don't like the idea of a female character being saved by a male character, but she saves him and he saves her in a way that no one else would have done. without going into the details of the ending, their fears are still there and the horrors are still there at the end, it is not as if everything is expunged in some wonderful blaze of light. that is just not realistic, it is not how life works. although we wanted the novel to end in a hopeful way, it still had to be realistic to
