"nbc 10's" jesse gary is live on the scene with the story. jesse, fill in the gaps for us. >> reporter: vai, right now we're waiting for a search warrant so officers from the special victim's unit can go in the apartment, check around look for the gun used. typically officers don't like to wake up a judge. what they'll do is wait until it gets later in the morning and go before the judge, ask for the search warrant and go inside and look for the gun that was used in this case. we can look at our video. this happened about 3:30 this morning although the suspect was brought out around 4:00 4:15 this morning in cuffs with no shirt on and was placed in the back of a philadelphia police van. investigators say that he met up with a woman at a nearby bar, he being 43 she being 34. they come back to this condo in west philadelphia the intersection of parish and north 48th street. she said he tried to sexually assault her and threaten her with a gun. she runs out of the apartment and calls philadelphia police. police officers arrive and see him inside

nbc 10's jesse gary joins us live from the scene of that crash. fill us in on what happened. >> reporter: rosemary i just got off the phone with the accident investigation unit of the philadelphia police department. the victim was walking across delaware avenue at penn street but coming east -- west to east. walking towards some of the clubs that are over here on delaware avenue when he was struck and killed. right now they're trying to determine if he was in the crosswalk or if he was not in the crosswalk. this accident happened about 10:45 late last night. a man was in his 20s, hit by a driver of an suv in the 700 block near penn street. the unidentified victim was pronounced dead. now police are looking for the driver of the vehicle involved in this accident. they do not know the make or model. they tell me it was a dark colored suv. that's about all they can say. the victim was traveling east. they don't know if he was in the crosswalk. the vehicle was traveling northbound when it hit him.tk"t)ight now they're searching for that vehicle. if yo

nbc 10's jesse gary is live in dover. jesse, what have you learned? >> well, ted, i've been putting in more calls to the university trying to get information about this whether they caught the shooter or not. so far i have not heard back. i've put in about ten calls. we've seen students moving about the campus students can move about, but we cannot go on. the campus is still closed to visitors at least so far. this happened during what is called field day, an annual campus cookout that's sanctioned by the university for sorority and fraternities. around 8:00 last night, that's when the trouble began, and this is video from that. school officials say there was a fight and gunfire. three people hit, wounded, and rushed to kent general hospital. they have nonlife-threatening wounds in stable condition. the students that were on campus were ordered into their dorm stories. non-students were ordered off of campus. and around 1:30 this morning, there were more shots fire this time at a housing complex, a university apartment complex. there were more shots,

"nbc 10's" jesse gary is live for us in center city. jesse, what prompted this high level visit? >> reporter: vai, the nation's chief executive and his number two both on the road during the week that encompasses earth day, which is tomorrow. the president will be down in the florida everglades tomorrow talking about the dangers of global warming. later today vice president biden and the energy secretary will tour pico headquarters in center city. afterwards the vice president will discuss investing in the nation's energy infrastructure. the obama administration touts gains in clean energy and fuel efficiency standards in cars and trucks but some republicans are pushing back on calls for the nation to cut carbon levels or enter into an agreement on emissions levels. senate majority leader mitch mcconnell says it puts more burden on this country. the house speaker's office says the obama administration has been on a, quote, crusade against affordable american energy. the president counters that these issues are bigger than the person that occupies the oval office. the vice preside

nbc 10's jesse gary has been following these developments and fills us in now. jesse? >> reporter: that's right, nyia parler is handcuffed to a hospital bed in montgomery county maryland this morning. officers transported her to the hospital for treatment, although they will not specify what the treatment is for. and that she is still in the hospital at the hour. meanwhile, her son is being treated here at children's hospital for possible infection, exposure, dehydration, and malnutrition. investigators say parler abandoned her 21-year-old disabled son in the woods of cobbs creek park friday night. the man is a quadriplegic, who also suffers from cerebral palsy and is nonverbal. several family members have now stepped up and stepped in and are working in shifts to make sure someone is by his hospital bedside at all times. we went by the family's west philadelphia home and found no handicap access ramp. neighbors are reacting angrily, saying if parler couldn't or wouldn't care for her son any longer there were options, other than abandonment. >> why would you do that to
