the rally was being held by reverend jesse jackson and reverend william jones.director of the local chapter. she always was as much a freedom fighter as she was a unique, gifted artist. and when we hear the charts claiming her magnitude of hits killing me softly. first time i ever saw his face, it went against what was considered the trend at the time of hard beating r&b. she was smooth and soft, mastered the piano and brought us into a kind of music that showed all cultures us at our best. we are better people and we are better culture because of roberta flack. she will always be missed, but thank god we'll have her voice that we can always turn on and listen to. and then this morning, i learned of the passing of a real freedom fighter that i've been in the trenches with for 35 or 40 years. in my teen years till now. hazel dukes, the former national president of the naacp and the head of the new york state chapter. i cannot think of an issue and a time. hazel dukes was not on the front line. she and i have gone to jail together, being arrested for demonstration
