jesse kirsch is outside a stellantis facility in streetsburg, ohio.the latest on this deal with mack trucks? >> reporter: something to keep in mind there. a separate situation, separate companies working on a deal there with the uaw, but what the uaw could potentially be benefitting from by getting that out of way is they may not now need to devote strike funding to those workers. so that means that they have a larger war chest, if you will, to devote to the ongoing strike with the big three against stellantis, general motors and ford. what has been a key point of this strategy from the union throughout this strike has been that they are targeting specific plants. they're not sharing until the last minute where those updated strike sites are going to be, and they're trying to keep the companies guessing. what they're also doing is utilizing just a fraction of their total big three work force. right now, roughly a fifth. less than a fifth of big three uaw workers are on strike, and that means they are causing a disruption production, bringing attention

jesse kirsch is in ohio with the latest details on this. i know we just heard from shawn fain.what we know and how much longer this may last. >> reporter: as for how much longer this may last, don't have an answer for you there. that is obviously part of the union's core strategy is keeping everyone guessing about where they may or may not move next, but what i can tell you at least for the time being, the uaw has not expanded its strike. so this is the first week since the strike began, so week by week, we have seen the strike expand twice now. there was the initial strike, and then they expanded against gm and stellantis, and then they expanded against ford and gm, and each of those two expansions, the company that was left out was said to have made progress according to the union. this time around the union did not announce any new strike expansion. that is a point of significance. the other thing that stood out is what the union said came from gm just before the union's president spoke a short time ago. here's part of what shawn fain had to say about what general motors is

jesse kirsch is in streetsboro, ohio, what's the latest on these ongoing negotiations with gm, ford andworkers picketing in the cleveland area, stellantis got a pass in the latest round of strike expansions, the uaw told more workers at both ford and general motors to begin striking on friday but it did not so with stellantis saying that the company, the maker of jeeps mast last-minute progress, stellantis, there are gaps that need to be worked through, what's notable about what happened on friday, you might remember ford a week prior had been exempt from the latest round of striking but not this time. the uaw president told me that he believes that ford has gone backwards in negotiating but ford's ceo contends that he believes that the union is holding up a deal now largely because of ev battery plants and a reminder for people, electric vehicles and concerns and that have been an underpinning for most of these negotiations. not take as broadly as many jobs to make those evs. the union trying to preserve jobs into the future. all of that is in conflict as we still see this stalemate pl

let's go to nbc's jesse kirsch in ohio. what do we know about this new deal?is point, frankly, not much. as you mentioned, sources telling our partners at cnbc that gm has reached a tentative agreement which will be similar to what when know is an agreement so far between the uaw and ford as well asuaw and stellantis. i want to read to you we have been in touch with general motors trying to get confirmation on this. so far the company is declining to comment on this. i've also reached out to united autoworkers for confirmation on this tentative agreement that is being reported by cnbc. the union is not officially commenting on this. we're still waiting to see what might come out of that. here's what we know broadly about the situation. the uaw says it has gotten a 25% wage bump across the length of a contract with both ford and stellantis, and talks about other things including cost of living adjustments and retirement benefits, and there's alsoeen job security in the ectric vehicle battery space, so those are the things that we know about from the ford and st
