>> jummy, the investigators here saying that their case against jesse matthew has been wrapped up. they decided to pursue and charge matthew yesterday with first-degree murder charges in the case of hannah graham as well as charges of abduction with intent to defile. now, prosecutors making it very clear they are not charging jesse matthew with capital murder charges which would carry with it the death penalty. they said if they made that decision after very careful deliberation but would not explain exactly why that decision came to be. now, this press conference taking place at 11:00 this morning here authorities today not revealing any information on the evidence against jesse matthew. hannah graham was last seen in downtown charlottesville in september 13th in the early morning hours. a week later, matthew fled town and was captured in texas and he's been in custody since. hannah graham's body was found on october 18th. jesse matthew was earlier charged with the abduction of hannah graham but now he's being charged with the murder. >> the prosecutions for the abduction and murde

we do have a first-degree murder charge against jesse matthew. we also have abduction with intent to defile. he had been charged with that in charlottesville. it's moved over here to albemarle county. he also faces reckless driving charges from the time he is said to have fled authorities when trying to question him about hannah graham's disappearance. let me take you back to that time. the second uva student -- second-year uva student, hannah was seen leaving a bar with jesse matthew. after intensive searching, her remains were found on an abandoned property in albemarle county on october 18. matthew is currently incarcerated in fairfax where he's facing attempted capital murder, rape of a fairfax woman in 2005. the commonwealth's attorney would not touch on why they are not burr suing capital charges, whether or not there's not enough evidence at this point or something else. here's what she did say about the first-degree murder charge. >> the charges that the jury will hear are the charges that the prosecutor feels comfortable and feels the pr

we're expecting to learn more about these charges coming against jesse matthew later this morning in a press conference out of charlottesville. sources with our sister station in richmond tell us jesse matthew will face murder charges in the death of uva student hannah graham. we don't know specifically what evidence led them to this charge but this is what we can tell you so far. matthew was first charged with abduction with intent to defy in graham's disappearance. is in fairfax county being held on a separate case facing attempted capital murder and sexual assault in the attack of a fairfax county woman back in 2005. his trial for that charge isn't until march. those charges again not related to the graham case. however, graham was last seen leaving a charlottesville bar with matthew in september of last year. her remains were later found in albemarle county just five miles away from where the remains of morgan harrington were found, the virginia tech student who disappeared from charlottesville in 2009. matthew's d.n.a. also linked him to that case. now, again a press conference

authorities from albermarle county virginia will reportedly announce first degree murder charges against jesse matthew. he had already been charged with abduction with intent to dwiel after hannah graham disappeared. matthews was taken into custody in galveston, texas. police questioned him about graham's disappearance. video from the night of her disappearance shows her and matthew at a charlottesville bar. the 18-year-old student sent friends a string of text messages around 1:00 a.m. saying she was lost. her remains were found over a month later miles down the road from the bar. this is just the latest serious charge for matthew. he also faces charges in a 2005 sexual assault in fairfax, virginia, and he's been forensicically linked to the 2010 death of a virginia student. he's expected to be in court for the assault charge next month. >> remember how we were looking for her for the longest time. terrible story. >> now bars in the area are being considered for potential cameras in the area, being able to monitor what's going on. it's a big debate right now whether they should have them or not. >> t
