this is nbc bay area news tonight, and i'm jessica aguirre. we start with new charges tonight for a notorious bay area kidnaper. he's now being tied to another kidnaping in the bay area. and the police chief of seaside is being credited with helping to crack that case. matthew muller was convicted in the 2015 so-called gone girl kidnaping in vallejo. the details at that time were so astonishing that police initially accused the victim, denise huskins, of making the entire story up with her boyfriend. muller was ultimately linked to the crimes and arrested. he's currently serving 40 years. now, last month, he was charged with two other home invasions in the south bay. that happened before the gone girl case that were very similar. and now he's been linked to yet another kidnaping in the east bay. authorities say muller held three people at a home in san ramon i in april of 2015, demanding one of them withdraw tens of thousands of dollars from their bank. police say after he got that money, he let them go. investigators claim muller confessed to

tonight, i'm jessica aguirre. we're going to start tonight with that incoming storm. now, that next round of rain arrives in just hours. and you can see that radar right behind me. the storm is headed our way. that's the green part. let's take you outside. give you a live look at the bay bridge. skies are clear now, but of course, that's going to change. want to bring in chief meteorologist jeff ranieri? okay, jeff, let's talk about the timeline. how much rain and when are we going to see it? well, i think really in large part here, we're going to start to see that roll in as we head through tomorrow morning for the early commute. it's more north bay based. 5:00 in the morning. guerneville, santa rosa, novato getting in on the rain. we'd see that continue to develop over marin, napa, sonoma counties through 8:00 and then dropping some wet weather in san francisco over to concord, eventually making it down through the peninsula, east bay and close to the south bay by 11 a.m. and then there still will be some rain in the south bay here by 1 p.m, but this really gets out

and i'm jessica aguirre. nowhere near done with the firefight. that is the word from the los angeles fire officials tonight. the battle to stop southern california from burning is now entering its second week. and for now, the fire still has the upper hand. the palisades and eaton fires are still by far the largest, scorching over 38,000 acres. 92,000 residents across the county remain evacuated from their homes. the palisades fire alone has burned almost 24,000 acres from the pacific palisades into malibu, and evacuation orders expanded over the weekend for those in the fire's path. the fire is also threatening the communities of brentwood, encino and westwood. containment sits at 14%. take it east to pasadena and altadena. the eaton fire has burned more than 14,000 acres. containment there stands at 33%. that fire has taken at least 16 lives and damaged or destroyed some 12,000 structures. most of those homes in total. southern california fires have now taken 24 lives. now, over the weekend, fire leaders say those fierce santa ana winds did slo

this is nbc bay area news tonight, and i'm jessica aguirre. we begin with that weather. the bay area and beyond are feeling the impacts of another winter storm. and that includes a tornado warning early this evening for parts of shasta county. check out this video from a wildfire camera in the area. you see it there. that tornado moving across the screen. tornado warning issued for the towns of shingletown, manton and paynes creek. but what about that warning? that warning expired about an hour ago. back here in the bay area, the rain is finally moving out. but before that, we saw some storm damage. two large trees fell and crushed a car. one landed on the corner of a house. this is in guerneville, in monte rio on stem hill road. pg&e power pole also damaged. luckily, no one was hurt. now also a big mess in the sierra. we're tracking multiple closures along i-80 because of crashes and spinouts. in fact, it's been happening all afternoon. right now, there are 20 miles of delays, 20 miles between gold run and donner summit, and drivers tell us it's taking them hours to get
