let's check on the roads with jessica boyington. she's keeping an eye on them for us on this friday morning. how is it looking? >> we're doing okay so far. a few problems but not really on the majors so far this morning. so if you head out the door on 295, right around route 38 you'll be fine. you can see no problems in either direction, the southbound drive time still great 13 minutes from 38 to the black horse pike. heading into philadelphia this morning from 295 you'll be good. an accident, though, once you get in p.a. on city avenue northbound that's closing around the schuylkill expressway off ramp in here, but you can still access the schuylkill expressway from this point. so at least some good news there. watch out for the construction also on the vine street expressway east and westbound still closed and some ramps closed between broad street and the schuylkill that will be throughout another 40 minutes or so until 5:00. >> some classic toys getting a high tech twist. internet connections and apps allow kids to have an inter

now let's check in with jessica boyington. she's keeping an eye on the traffic cameras.hat are you seeing on 295? >> smooth sailing so far. this is out in west deptford. no lane restrictions in this area. 644 now, 22 minutes from 42 freeway, heading to the delaware memorial bridge no problem. average speed 65 miles per hour. everybody is moving along nicely. north or southbound. and pretty much true for most of the majors in new jersey. construction on the 42 freeway between 544 and 295. but you can see the drive times are great. five minutes north or southbound. from 55 to the walt whitman bridge into philadelphia. >> happening today the state department of transportation will unveil a new snow plow tracking feature added to the deldot app. >> 4:23. on temple's campus hopes are high for the future of the football program. but tensions are also high. next, nbc 10 was there as students tried to make their voices heard about building a stadium on campus. why the board of trustees put plans on hold. and ahead in the next half hour, a new line in the sand at the jersey shore

jessica boyington has first alert traffic. >> bill, we're still watching construction on the vine street expressway, some of it starting to pick up. i checked our cameras around the schuylkill and the vine, there's no longer restrictions there and some of those ramps, some are there, you can see it still reflected on the map system here in between the schuylkill and broad so you still might want to go with the local vine right now to get through the area. but again, should be picking up around 5:00 which is about right now. so any moment now we're about 10 minutes behind schedule. the schuylkill expressway also watching out for some ongoing construction here, this is around south street, on the eastbound side in this camera, earlier we had an off ramp closed for south street and the left lane closures as well. now we're dealing with it on the eastbound side right around south street as you can see right in here taking out the left lane. all of the rest of these construction has cleared. downed poles on south park avenue is close between egypt road and ridge pike, that's right in this are

jessica boyington is watching for some of the rain on the roads with a first alert traffic. >> our biggest problem is that construction. so right now we're checking out the schuylkill expressway, right around the vine street expressway. down below you can see of course they moved the camera up a little bit. you see police activity here because they still have this off ramp closed from the schuylkill to the vine street expressway. that closure with that construction tiny bit behind schedule. supposed to pick up around 5:00 and typically they start about 10 minutes before. so right now we still have that blocked off. the best bet is take local vine now. also watch in philadelphia for construction on richmond street between lehigh and deller avenue. this is until 2017 so plan your trip accordingly. you can see the rest of our drive times great. no problems on the schuylkill and 95 into center city and the blue route is okay from the schuylkill to 95, still 15 minutes. i'll check with mass transit when i come back in the next ten. >> philadelphia police are searching for the gunman who shot a

right now jessica boyington has your first alert traffic. >> bill, we're watching the vine street expressway. they start moving the cameras around. that's because the off ramps are still blocked off. we have police activity blocking the on ramps. there we go. we tried. there we go. okay. right on the on ramp here police activity blocking those. these are from the schuylkill expressway facing the vine. closed east and westbound between the schuylkill and broad street. so extra time this morning we're a little behind schedule. you want to avoid that for the next 10 to 15 minutes. we'll have updates as soon as it is accessible to all traffic. but we're going to head out to 422, no problems east or westbound from 29 to the schuylkill expressway, that's typically where we see a jam. only eight minutes average speed 66 miles per hour. we're good to go. clear in the tacony palmyra and the betsy right now but a scheduled opening for burlington bristol at 5:05. >> new from overnight a fire broke out on the second floor of a house in the powellton section of philadelphia. they got the flames under con

jessica boyington is keeping an eye on the traffic cameras and i notice something out on 76. >> yeah, so on our camera from the schuylkill expressway next to the vine street expressway. the schuylkill is fine. as you can see we have 13 minutes from the blue route to the vine. once you try to access the vine still closed. police activity here. we have signs blocking the off ramp to get to the strin. that's closed between broad and the schuylkill. doesn't seem they are cleaning it up early though sometimes they do that. it's blocked off now. watch for the 42 freewaying closed this morning. normally there is ongoing construction but it's closed and detoured. that willble until about 5:00 so 10 to 20 minutes or so as they clean up. we'll watch for a crew in the area there as well. route 42 northbound is closed between 295 and 76 in new jersey. no problems for mass transit this morning. we're running on time with no delays. >> later today the grand opening and ribbon kuth for philadelphia's tallest new attraction. it gives people 360 degree views of the city nearly 900 feet above street le

let's get a check on the roads with jessica boyington. >> sheena, we're watching an accident scene. it's an accident actually now vehicle fire. but some of the new jersey turnpike south around exit 5 all lanes are still open to traffic. no problems getting by right now. just something to watch for. we'll have updates to come. for the 42 freeway in new jersey, this is around runnemede at the new jersey turnpike you can see no problems there. so northbound lanes headed to the walt whitman bridge or 295 there is no problem so far. average speeds are about 65 miles per hour. now the vine street expressway, probably some police activity still on the scene now, but for the most part we are open east and westbound in between the schuylkill and broad street. now, give you a heads up for a little later on. some stadium traffic you can expect because of disney on ice, they have three shows, 11, 3 and 7 p.m. >> thanks, jessica. chip kelly era has come to an end in philadelphia. the eagles fired the head coach before the season could wrap up. nbc 10's matt delucia is live in south philadelphia

jessica boyington in the traffic center. >> hey, katy. we're watching construction, the fog and the rain this morning so a lot of things to take into account before you head out the door. on the vine street expressway where you can see clearly no cars in the area because we have it closed now. actually did see one drive through but this is around 24th street, still reports of it being closed with the construction but i did see a car move through so they may be opening it early. especially with the rain. there we go. my point,inging under way right now. they may have started to clear the construction early. when i looked i did see police activity on some of the off ramps. so something to watch for and around the curves and on and off exit ramps is where we tend to see the slippery spots. watch for slow moving maintenance vehicle northeast extension, 10 minutes delays or so. and with mass transit we're okay and currently the airports, no delays there. we'll have updates to come. >> thanks. it's 4:34. a driver loses control and slams into a

jessica boyington is following your first alert traffic. >> that's right, bill. we're in runnemede, new jersey on the 42 freeway around the new jersey turnpike you can see northbound where we typically see that morning delay, no problems yet heading into philadelphia perhaps or to 295, the northbound drive time from 55 to the walt whitman bridge five minutes, 62 miles per hour, as your average speed so we're moving along nicely for a pretty big stretch of the 42 freeway. trooper, though, there is a downed pole and wires taking out part of south park avenue. that's due to an earlier accident. the best bet is take the local detours provided or get on 422 theying doing okay also. in hatfield township an accident on 40 foot road and welsh road. should be okay following detours and with great weather comes no airport delays that are weather related at the philadelphia international. another update when i come back in the next ten. >> thanks. we continue to follow this breaking news. a man tried to drive away after he was shot. >> he got about a mile and a half. matt d

no charges were filed. >>> nbc 10's first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington joining us for a look at the roads, especially on the schuykill, jessica. >> the schuykill expressway dealing with an accident scene. it's westbound around montgomery drive. we're starting to be in the yellow with the drive times. hasn't increased that much. traffic is still moving along nicely here. pretty much down to about two lanes because this accident scene is taking up the left hand shoulder and the next lane over with police activity there. they're starting to move around. they may even possibly be starting to block off part of the roadways a little bit. that's exactly what they're doing. we're at a full stop now on the schuykill expressway. all traffic stopped behind that scene. this drive time will really pop up there. if you're headed westbound on the schuykill expressway, the king of prussia area, you'll be in for a delay for this part of the morning. the eastbound lanes still moving along nicely by the scene. still on the boulevard, we are clear with that accident scene around fox street. sout

had at least one accident that jessica boyington is watching. jessica? >> that accident was on the boulevard. it's clear out of way. it was a quick thing. it was only blocking the left and center lane. traffic was always getting through. there was no stoppages on the boulevard so far for the morning around ridge avenue. watch as there could be police activity on the scene. otherwise that accident scene is cleared out of way. also what's cleared out of way is the vine street spes expressway. all vehicles with moving along nice nicely. because of the rain, they have lifted these construction projects. around 24th street, you can see all traffic moving nicely westbound or eastbound. you'll have no problems at least with construction getting to 95 or the schuykill expressway. as for mass transit, accept at that is running on a modified schedule. buses are on a modified weekday schedule. tracy. >>> this is new from overnight. one man killed, another hurt in the shooting in a chester, delaware county. this happened around midnight. a man shot multiple times at
