here is jessica burch why we declared tomorrow a first alert weather day. >> it's so active. first alert doppler lighting up the bay area as we wake up and head into the area. for our friends in the north bay, some of the worst has happened. we still to country, vallejo, vacaville getting hit with heavy storms. i will say this, wrapping all the way down to the santa russ mountains and santa clara valley, heavy downpour. this major frontal system won't let up. this is the 9:00 hour. it's in the east bay but plenty of energy is backing it up. that will track in from offshore as we head into the 11:00 hour. hit or miss storms at that point trending to evening hours tonight. heavier pockets of rain can be expected throughout the north bay as we head into the 5:00 hour. overnight it will taper off ahead of the next major frontal system pushing in tomorrow morning at 6:00 a.m. that will be storm number 8 from what we had so far this season. so much downpours, but we are under a flood watch until monday. keep that in mind. we are prone to flooding into the weekend. more in a bit. >>

now let's get a check on our weather with first alert meteorologist jessica burch. >> we have a system impacting commuters who wake up early. i will say that a big change is around the corner when this low-pressure area loses its energy. currently circulating counterclockwise near the sacramento valley pushing into the sierra tahoe. sweeping out the bay area this morning so if you are a light sleeper laying it on this system. we will see clear conditions in the north bay with light shatter showers sweeping throughout the santa clara valley and even the santa cruz mountains. a little bit of energy is left over to wake up this morning which could pose a threat for some. coastal flood advisory is in effect until 9:00 a.m. with the wind very gusty you and that will be the case into the afternoon around 4:00 there is a onshore flow with wind gusting up to 20 miles per hour. gusty along the coastline and lighter inland. i will say that the national weather service kept the wind advisory until 9:00 this morning, so with that in the left over red in the next 15 minutes be careful on the roads.

to track that for us is meteorologist jessica burch. when will we see that here? >> this is an interesting system with a unique signature. it starts in the north bay, sweeping through the bay area. it will leave a lot of us drive through most of the evening. i will timeout for you, see you know what to expect. we are starting dry. low pressure is pushing in from offshore. that will bring a splash of showers in near 4:00 or 5:00, starting in the north bay. this is a frontal system. backing it is cold, dense air. i will mention that in a bit. this starts around 4:00 or 5:00. it was sweep into the central section of the bay, ranging all the way into the sacramento valley. you will push into the south bay near 10:00 or 11:00. keep that in mind, that is a fast-moving frontal system. behind it is cold, dense air. after that, we are clear. i do mean that, on thursday, friday, and into the weekend, we have clear conditions across the board. we have a gradual warm-up. it does sound beautiful. i am excited. it would happen eventually, when the major rain system comes to an

we begin with our first alert weather meteorologist jessica burch with how we can start to prepare for our morning. what should we be waiting for? what should we be planning? >> reporter: first things first. it is active as we are waking up this morning. all throughout the bay area, we are seeing heavy downpours, gusty wind, too. wind speeds are anywhere up to 46 miles per hour right now. so the national weather service has issued a high wind warning that will stay in effect at 8:00 a.m. at that point the winds slowly start to taper off. look at our first alert donner. it is already active as the major atmospheric river has started to push its way in. >>> as we timeout this storm, it is going to be very inconvenient for any early morning commuters. if you have the capability to work from home, today is the day to on do it. you saw what happened last week. we are going to cop to see this major system settle in. notice how the time all the way into 10:00, it is still heavy just along the peninsula and throughout the east bay. then it tapers off in the east bay and the north bay. >>> if y

first, we are with the first alert meteorologist, jessica burch. the big question is, what will we see? >> today's storm is different from yesterday's already. here is what i mean. as we look at first alert doppler, you see the purple off in the distance? that is the front leading edge of a cold front that swept its way through the bay area this morning , within the last four hours. around 2:30, settled into the bay area. if you are a light sleeper, you probably woke up to the severe thunderstorms. i had to wait and go to work because i knew the radar was showing very active conditions. i will say this, now that the frontal system is moved through, we are left with scattered showers throughout this afternoon. we have heavy pockets of rain and lightning potential over the coming hours. i went to zoom in closer to home. we have heavy pockets of rain forming near san francisco county. within the next 5 to 10 minutes, the heavy band will push its way through the whole city, and off to the east. we are seeing heavy activity near vallejo, tracking to the
