let's check back in with jessica burch. i expect to catch you out there catching waves. >> absolutely not. you said it's a little bit windy but it's a lot windy. 40 miles per hour gust along ocean beach as we're watching the rain move in from offshore. it's cool and cloudy. let's look at the doppler throughout the bay area. waking up and out the door it wasn't that bad but now it's picking up into the afternoon. we will continue to watch the rain and that system move to the east. really impacting the sierra with the strongest winter storms we've seen so far this year. in the past couple years. the last time we saw this amount of snow was in 2020. kirkwood getting hit the heaviest anywhere from 5000 feet and above they are expecting close to five to 12 feet of snow. this is no joke. if you were going up there , this is not the weekend to do so. maybe early next week after the storm comes to an end. soda springs into donner summit are expected to get anywhere from nine to 12 feet of snow. traveling will be an issue. if you ha

. >>> let's check in with meteorologist jessica burch . >> temperatures warm up and we start to see drier conditions. we are matching that with some really gusty conditions as well for many of us in the bay area under wind advisory until 11:00 a.m.. we will keep a close eye on the wind gusts through the early morning hours where up into napa, sonoma, we could see wind speeds hit the 60 miles per hour mark. once we head into the afternoon hours tomorrow, that is when we will start dying down. let's start this out. closer to the 1:00 hour, winds closer to 40 miles per hour in the northbay near sonoma, calistoga. notice the east bay as well, areas like danville will be seeing gusty conditions into the overnight hours tonight, early morning hours tomorrow as we wake up and head out the door. we will keep a close eye on the winds especially during the morning commute tomorrow because sonoma expected to hit 50 miles per hour. a similar trend along the coast. once this wind event starts to die down, beautiful conditions heading into the rest of friday's forecast, into saturday and sunday but we

meteorologist jessica burch is tracking the wet weather for us. >> let's start along the coast as we head out the door. it was a lot lighter but we are starting to see that rain really ramp up in the communities close to san francisco, all along the peninsula and making its way into the santa clara valley where, by the way, we were seeing reports of a little bit of that snow and that mixed precipitation up into high elevations, closer to mt. hamilton. as we wake up and head out the door this morning, like i said, pretty calm. it is looking a lot more active. we are seeing light to moderate rain widespread throughout the bay area from san francisco down along that highway. moderate pockets of rain are expected to fall moving in from offshore. we are expecting some thunderstorm activity into the next couple of hours. the storm is starting to ramp up. we will continue to watch all of this yellow showing moderate to heavy rain slowly move off into the east. let's take a look at what that is showing us. as that happens, thunderstorm activity as possible from the coast all the way off into

meteorologist jessica burch has a look at your weekend forecast. >> it has been a breezy morning for us with blue skies above us and daytime highs later this afternoon hitting the 70s throughout most of the bay area with the exception of half moon bay. we are going to continue to see these blue skies over the santa clara valley all throughout this weekend. it will be gorgeous to get out there and get fresh air. the pollen count is in the medium to high category. take it slow if you are sensitive to allergies like i. the blue skies are unmatched. it is a beautiful day as we get closer to spring. we have together these windy conditions first and they are little stubborn into the northbay. we see winds moving into the north around 30 miles per hour at max and then it slowly starts to die down into the evening hours tonight. we are left with clear conditions throughout the evening hours tonight and that is how we are setting up for tomorrow too. there is wings over solano happening with the blue angels and the blue skies and of course, the st. patrick's day parade right around the corner

jessica burch gives us a sneak peek. >>> over the weekend, sierra saw heavy snow fall totals. in the bay we got our fair share of rain from the same cold front that moved in from offshore. we got close to an inch in san jose, passed an inch in half moon bay and san francisco and passed two inches into novato where head lands got hit with some of the heaviest rain so far. as we look at the next days, today, tomorrow, into our wednesday, we will continue to see unsettled weather. what does that mean? if we look at futurecast, light speckles of showers moving in at times with dense clouds from offshore. we will watch that be the case into our tuesday forecast mostly in the north bay and all the way to our wednesday forecast too. luckily by thursday and friday we start to clear with sunshine around the corner heading into this weekend's forecast. >>> in alameda, behind the recall effort against district attorney pamela price submitted signatures to the county officials. the group said they collected more than 110,000 signatures for the petition. county registrar of voters has ten

jessica burch, it is a first alert weather day. on the radar behind you. >>> i know, i wish that was not the case but yeah, we have some active weather in the forecast for us waking up this morning and heading out the door. for most of us, off in the east bay, the santa clara valley, and along the peninsula, it's still dry. but we're seeing this offshore setup starting to move its way closer to us as we speak. and now it's cool and it's cloudy out there right now. and razz we wake up and head out the door, what we see just offshore is a good reminder that that's about to impact us right around the corner. for example, there's some lightning and thunder activity just offshore of point arena and light showers up in the north bay already with some isolated scattered showers getting really close to our coastline closer to half-moon bay and pacifica as well. now this storm, it's a huge area of low pressure and it's slowly rolling its way down the california coastline as we head into our weekend forecast. that's going to deliver rain for

let's check with meteorologist jessica burch. >>> we are seeing a mix of sun and clouds in the forecast into the next couple hours. tonight the rain returns to the bay area starting in the north bay really late, close to 9:00, 10:00 from santa rosa stretching to san francisco. into the overnight hours the band continues to blanket all of us from the santa clara valley to the north bay with unsettled weather early tomorrow morning. as we advance to tomorrow afternoon, it starts to slowly dry up. a little bit showers are left in the north bay and clouds are hit or miss throughout the afternoon. once we head into wednesday, thursday, friday forecast the area of low pressure that brought that rain, it's moving out. do you know what's replacing it? a huge ridge of high pressure. that's going to keep us dry and warm into the rest of the week and early next week. lots of changes in the for cast, emphasis on dry. after tomorrow we rule out chances of showers. it's going to be a beautiful sunny set up into the rest of the week. daytime highs today aren't that bad. i was on a walk earlier and it

meteorologist jessica burch is tracking the winds from our virtual view studio. >> it is a first alert weather day here in the bay area. we are dealing with some of the strongest winds we have seen in quite some time. the national weather service has issued a wind advisory that stays in effect until tomorrow. once the winds start to die down, we are left with beautiful conditions and a warming trend. as we take a look at the wind advisory, it highlights most of the area and all of the sacramento valley too. wind speeds anywhere up to 50 miles per hour. we see a very similar trend with wind speeds moving into the north, anywhere from 30 to 40 miles per hour up into the north bay with gusty conditions impacting san francisco too. we will see it die down just a little bit but not by much. 30 miles per hour winds into the evening hours tonight. as we wake up tomorrow morning, areas like sonoma and napa could get anywhere up to 50 miles per hour winds. about 40 miles per hour wind is expected near danville tomorrow morning the for that advisory expires. when the winds start whipping up in o

meteorologist jessica burch has a look at the forecast. >> we are done with the active weather we saw yesterday. now we have partly cloudy skies. tomorrow will be sunny. not a thing on the radar. we are dealing with mild conditions until saturday as we take a look at an area of low pressure moving its way in. the cold front will sweep in with a band of rain heading into our early-morning hours on saturday. it sweeps to the south bay in the afternoon with some speckled showers in the forecast and then drier conditions. that could impact some activities outside. around lunchtime, we could see some showers right around the corner but then it clears up after the evening hours. as we take a step back, today we are talking about upper 50s and lower 60s, anywhere from redwood city all along our coastline where it will be a little bit gustier today near half moon bay and bodega bay with winds up to 30 miles per hour but it will be a lot lighter for the wounds in our inland areas. >>> a traffic alert in santa clara county, a stretch of highway 9 in saratoga remains shut down due to a mudslide.

and meteorologist jessica burch joins us now. jess, those high winds have really caused just havoc in some issues over the barium when i was driving over the bridge yesterday, my car was shifting. >>> i know, you have to be careful today nicole and in san mateo county, those strong winds actually caused a tree to land across power lines on highway 35 shutting down the road yesterday afternoon. this happened between highway 9 and alpine road and we talked about it yesterday. these strong winds could cause downed trees and power outages and we're still seeing the effects today. that wind event is not over just yet and as we take a look out on the first alert weather day as the highlighted zones and counties on the map behind me. we are still under a wind advisory until 11:00 a.m. issued by the national weather service national weather service, where we can still see downed trees into the next couple of hours. now this does expire just around lunchtime but watch what happens up in the north bay throughout the next couple of hours. s

meteorologist jessica burch joins us now and jess, those high winds have really caused some issues around the bay area. >> oh my gosh yesterday was wild nicole, gianna. yesterday in san mateo county, strong winds actually caused a tree to land across power lines on highway 35 shutting down the road completely yesterday afternoon. now this happened between highway 9 and alpine road and we forecasted wind gusts anywhere up to around 40 to 50 miles per hour yesterday. and to add to that we also saw really damaging impacts and i mean downed trees and power outages are still possible as we wake up this morning. we are under a first alert weather day as we wake up and head out the door. here's the exact reason why. here's current wind speeds or wind gusts i should say. so the strongest we'll see in our local communities and it is a lot lighter down in areas like pleasanton but areas like sonoma. 54-mile-per-hour winds this afternoon. about 43-mile-per-hour winds just near petaluma. that starts to die down slowly in the east bay closer to around 11:00 and still is gusty up in the north bay past

and let's bring in jessica burch right now and talk about what people in the city can expect today bute have an update on kind of a -- situation in the snow in tahoe. good morning. >> oh. good morning to you. you know, it's interesting. people have been enjoying the fresh snow in tahoe after the last winter storm. and if we keep rolling i'm going to tell you more about this. recently over in tahoe, there's actually been an interesting story developing especially at sierra-at-tahoe. i'm going to have more on that coming up. but if you are on the ski slopes, this is one of the last things you'd want to actually run into. check this out. over at sierra-at-tahoe at the deresort there. staff members found a large crack similar to a crevasse and hard to tell in the photos but if you actually fell into one of those, it'd be 40 feet of a fall. now the resort closed that side of the run and now they're going to look a lot more into it as they start to fill it in. but it's worth noting that's something really extreme for our friends up in the sierra and many of us during this year and especially
