so let's get to first alert meteorologist jessica burch for more on the conditions. today suggests there's concern that those winds may pick back up, >>>>and they are starting to pick back up right now. i mean, they're under a red flag warning widespread throughout los angeles all the way down into san diego. a high wind warning in effect right now. and of course, the air quality alerts that are widespread throughout all of these communities. now we take a look at current conditions. what we're gearing up for is wind gusts anywhere up to around 70mph as we are under this red flag warning. and so, taking a look at our fire weather outlook, you zoom in to local communities close to the santa monica mountains. we're talking areas like malibu all the way up into san bernardino. these are the communities that we're really concerned about, because some of the strongest wind gusts and the lowest relative humidity is just centralized in that pink zone right there. and we make our way all the way down into the border close to mexico. very similar fire like conditions as we ex

let's check in with meteorologist jessica burch. hey, jess. >jessica>hey, how's it going? let's get going with this forecast real fast, because as we head into the next couple of days, we're going to notice small day to day changes when it comes to our temperatures. but we're going to notice drastic changes when it comes to this dry setup that we've been experiencing for most of the month of january. it's going to come to an end pretty fast. there's rain right around the corner for us, anywhere from the santa clara valley, where today we're sitting in the 60s all the way up to the north bay, where more 60s are in the forecast for us today. what's happening right now is this huge area of low pressure. it's starting to sweep its way into the pacific northwest. and with it that rain, the atmospheric river, it's going to start angling its way closer to us here in the bay as early as friday morning. so i advance the clock kind of to show you not what's happening tomorrow necessarily. but as early as friday morning, we start seeing rain widespread throughout the north bay down i

let's check in with first alert meteorologist jessica burch. and jessica, we talked about the winds that are happening out there. any relief for those in southern california? >>>>well, let's start off with what they've been dealing with, because anywhere up to around 100 mile per hour winds were reported over in altadena just yesterday. within the past 24 hours, we've seen wind gusts up to around 80 90mph, at times moving from those higher elevations all the way down to the lower elevated areas closer to sea level. now, as we take a look at conditions for them into the afternoon and evening hours tonight, there are still wind gusts in areas like hidden springs up to around 50mph currently, and that's going to last as we head into the next couple hours. as the boots on the ground are continuing to fight these fires. now, of course, as it moves from higher to lower elevation, it condenses and it dries. and that's the big concern for them right now, too. but we head all the way into our friday forecast. it looks to see or it looks like the winds ar

here's meteorologist jessica burch say it's not so or say it is so. >>>>well, ryan, it depends. do you want to go on a run this weekend or. that's really the determining factor. all right. so here's here's what's happening as we head outside real fast. we are waking up and heading outside this morning with pretty chilly temperatures. but now that we're getting into the afternoon hours, it's actually going to warm up pretty fast. now we still have these frost advisories each morning throughout the bay. the national weather service has issued, but now that we're into the afternoon hours, we're warming up into the upper 50s and lower 60s, widespread throughout the bay from half moon bay off into the east bay. there's only about a degree of difference when it comes to our daytime highs. now, of course, there's different times of the year where that looks a lot different. but if you live in the city and you work in the east bay or vice versa, you pretty much can dress for the exact same forecast. now, another thing i want to mention, though, is we extend into the afternoon hours toda

let's get that forecast from meteorologist jessica burch. >>>>it's almost the weekend.ive. into this. weekend, we have some big changes in the forecast for us. the past few days have been amazing with sunny skies, warm temperatures. it was such a treat. now as we head into this weekend, a cold front sweeping through and this is going to bring in some gusty winds at times for our friends up in the north bay as we head into early saturday morning hours and lasting into the afternoon too, we could see wind gusts anywhere up to around 25 to 35mph at times in areas like napa, sonoma, all the way over into fairfield and around that exact same time as we advance the clock, you see the time stamp just above me heading into saturday forecast. we're expecting light showers, possibly up in the north bay, just around three, 4 or 5:00. that will circulate its way back in from offshore down south, closer to half moon bay and pacifica, pushing into the santa clara valley in the early morning hours for sunday. and this is going to be a nice treat for us, considering the fact that we ha

let's check back in with meteorologist jessica burch. >>>>it's another day of blue skies for us here in the bay area with daytime highs nice and mild. a little bit above average, actually, in certain pockets of the bay. let's head up to the north real fast. santa rosa topping off at 67 degrees today. we're sitting in the low 60s near oakland, vallejo and all the way across that beautiful bay bridge over into san francisco, too. and then we warm right back up into the upper 60s. more south. we go closer to the santa clara valley this afternoon. the winds are light for us today. the temperatures are pretty warm in certain pockets of the bay, and we'll continue to see sunny conditions throughout this afternoon. but as we time this out into the next couple of days, there's some small changes in the forecast for us. for the most part, the winds stay light, pushing offshore for a little bit into this afternoon and into the overnight hours tonight. by tomorrow, areas like half moon bay and pacifica get a little bit stronger winds that will be n

jessica burch here to talk to us a little bit about some of the conditions that have been driving this extreme fire weather. i mean, the wind that we've been seeing down there is just unbelievable. >>and we were talking about it earlier this morning. this is the type of wind event that you'd see maybe once in a decade. and when we're talking about how strong these winds are, well, we've seen gusts close to around 100mph. how on earth are aircraft able to get to these fires or the boots on the ground, able to get to those fires when they're dealing with such strong, gusty conditions? that's the big issue they're dealing with right now. and so taking a look at current conditions, the winds are going to die down later into the evening hours tonight. but it's important to note the science behind why this is happening. the santa ana winds happen widespread throughout southern california at times, but it's usually driven by high pressure parked offshore, kind of driving them in from the north. but we have this area of low pressure parked just south of it. it's like two gears working in the s

meteorologist jessica burch tracking it all from the virtual view studio. >>>>absolutely. yeah, it's been a pretty dry january. so as we head into the next couple of days and we start to see rain in the forecast return. this is almost kind of exciting. as we wrap up this month and head into february. now another thing to mention too, for the most part, we're dealing with dry skies. sunny skies all the way down into the santa clara valley today. a little bit cooler and cloudier along the coast this afternoon. notice how all of our inland areas, for the most part, are sitting in the low 60s or upper 50s, and we see that exact same influence along the coast to san francisco today, topping off at 58 degrees. so a little bit cooler. and we're going to see that exact same trend as we wrap up this week heading into this weekend as well. at least when it comes to the temperatures, the difference is we actually have some moisture in the atmosphere that's going to start ringing in as early as friday heading into saturday and sunday. in the meantime, before we even get there, let's t
