let's check in with meteorologist jessica burch. >>>>a weak cold front is sweeping throughout the bay area today, bringing in cloudy skies, some light showers that move off to the east into the afternoon hours and daytime highs today, just a little bit below where we were yesterday. for example, the santa clara valley today are sitting in the low 60s. yesterday we were in the mid to upper 60s there, and we have some 50s along the coast near half moon bay and pacifica and some 50s all the way over into vallejo too. now we track the system that's continuing to sweep off into the east. it's visible this cold front as that rain moves off closer to the sacramento valley, but it doesn't amount to much. these rain showers will give us closer to around 100th of an inch of rain as we head into the afternoon hours today, which is actually a treat. it's a cool and cloudy day for us today, but the best part is look at this real fast. we're going to warm up even more as we head into the rest of this week. once it pushes through, we're expecting

meteorologist jessica burch, looking at our mild weather and even a warm up coming. >>blue skies and warm temperatures on the way for us as we head into the rest of this week and all the way into our weekend forecast, too. taking a look at our daytime highs today, i mean, we're already up to the upper 60s in areas like petaluma all the way over into santa rosa, off into the east bay, and down into the santa clara valley. of course, the exception is the coast, where a little bit cooler today near half moon bay at 61 degrees. but it's a beautiful day to get out there and get some fresh air. a little bit breezy as we head into the afternoon hours, but besides that, we are in for a treat when it comes to the next seven days. i want to show you just diving straight into this the inland forecast. we warm up into the 70s as early as saturday and sunday, with some partly cloudy skies in the forecast for us. and just when you think that we're heading into next week and things are going to change, no, we're going to hold on tight to the 70s even longer with more sunshine as we

jessica burch is fired up as we take a live look outside.s is from our camera on the top of mount diablo, and the clouds are starting to build around the bay area. yeah, that is what has got her very busy today, jess. what are we looking >>>>at? oh, my gosh, you're totally right. and as we take a look behind me right now, too, i'll show that live. look one more time from our rooftop here in san francisco at k p i x, just overlooking the bay bridge. you see, it's dry now, but, gosh, just within the next 12 hours, it's going to look a lot different. so let's start off with we have currently i mean, we're talking about daytime highs today mostly sitting actually in the 50s throughout the bay area. here's the right numbers. upper 50s near livermore in fremont. low 50s all the way into the north near santa rosa and novato. throughout this afternoon we're off to a dry start, but gosh, it's going to look a lot different right around the corner from today until friday. we could see anywhere up to around 2 to 3in of rain in communities like mountain

let's send it over to meteorologist jessica burch. how bad are things expected to get this afternoon rain wise? >>>>well, we still have thunderstorms in the vicinity and we're going to see more of that develop into the next couple of hours, too. and another thing to mention, i'm just pulling up the usgs right now. anything above a magnitude a magnitude 2.5 earthquake will be reported on this list. as she mentioned, there was a 3.4 just at 1152 and a 3.2 at 1154. we're continuing to keep a close eye on that to see if there are any changes when it comes to aftershock, but in the meantime, the other big story has to do with the rain that's sweeping throughout the bay area. we have more on and off showers into the evening hours tonight and early morning hours tomorrow that we're going to get to in just a second. i want to show you what our first alert doppler is showing and where we're at so far. i mean, we've seen over four inches of rainfall just near ben lomond, dublin, closer to around three inches, and we actually passed three inches

let's check back in with meteorologist jessica burch. >>>>it is a beautiful day for us today here in the bay area, as we're gearing up for daytime highs to top off in the low 60s near san francisco across the bay bridge, which you see behind me in that live cam over in oakland. and we're seeing a similar forecast all throughout the north bay as we make our way down into the santa clara valley. upper 60s are in store for us today in the santa clara region, anywhere from san jose over to los gatos. but as we head into the next couple of days, a cold front approaches us as early as tomorrow morning, and that's going to drop all these temperatures down by about 3 to 5 degrees. so let's dive into that forecast. starting off with today, the winds are relatively light. yesterday it was a little bit breezier along the coast with gusts up to around 20mph. well today closer to around 15mph at max. the rest of us are going to see light conditions into the afternoon and evening hours. tonight the clouds start to accumulate into the overnight hours t

so let's get right out to meteorologist jessica burch with a look at this forecast. >>>>it's about to start intensifying too as we head into the next couple of hours. here's where we're at right now. have the map just below me showing you all the bay area. and throughout the morning hours, we saw these hit or miss showers that we're still dealing with right now. just near lunchtime. heading into the next couple of hours, this atmospheric river will continue to tilt its way into the bay area, with it bringing thunderstorm activity into our three, four 5:00 hour as it continues to track off into the east. so let's start off with what's happening for us. we take a look at the first alert doppler. it is very active out there. i mean we've seen wind gusts anywhere up to around 55 60mph, almost just near pacifica. it's been a very breezy day all along that coastline, all the way down into half moon bay. and with those cloudy skies or those cloudy skies, we're not done just yet with the rain. so far we've seen close to around nine inches just since friday over in the kentfi

[ laughter ] >> he is. >> and then on top of that yesterday's little cold front swept throughout the bay area. bringing in just some light drizzle through the to midday forecast. but now we're in far treat. we warm up and we dry up in the next couple of days so let's start off with the map and show you kind of where we're heading this afternoon. we're expecting mid- to upper 60s in the forecast in areas like oakland and concord and san francisco. actually over into antioch, san francisco today topping off in the mid- to low 60s there. that will be the case along the coastline with a little bit breezier conditions along our shore today. all the way down into the santa clara valley. we're already getting close to the 70s and right around thecorner we'll actually hit the 70s and then hold on tight to the same forecast as high pressure continues

let's check in with meteorologist jessica burch on the timing of this next round of rain. >>>>all right, ryan, let's take a quick look at what's happening for us as we head outside today because it's still cool and it's still cloudy, like you see right behind me over into san jose. but our first alert doppler is already starting to show showers form anywhere from santa rosa all the way down into areas like novato. we're starting to see those light showers get closer to our coastline. let's zoom in real fast so i could show you this. we're seeing dry conditions from the santa clara valley off into the peninsula. dry conditions just up in the marin headlands. but that's going to look a lot different as we head into the next 24 hours. i mean, just into the overnight hours tonight, this atmospheric river starts to tilt its way all the way into the bay, bringing with it light to moderate rain with some heavy pockets at times, too. now we advance the clock all the way into the overnight hours. tonight it's going to start intensifying as we head all the way into the morning hours
