jessica flores, kpix 5. >>> police are looking for suspects in a double homicide in west oakland. two men were found dead inside a home before 9:00 last night. the motive is unclear and investigators don't have a suspect yet. police are not sure why the victims were many that home. >>> we are hearing from a woman trapped inside a trader joe's during a hostage standoff. >> reporter: a typical weekend grocery run became a terrifying moment for people inside that trader joe's. this morning those victims are still a pole outside the silver lake store and entered, firing five or six gunshots. some were able to escape and others huddled in aisles and ducked for cover. about 50 people were trapped inside for hours, including a news producer for a cbs affiliate in los angeles. >> the really scary part was when he noticed an officer with a rifle on the roof of the cheese store next door. it escalated to the point where he started counting down that he was going to shoot people. >> reporter: a 27-year-old manager of the store was killed during the standoff. the gunman has been identified at

jessica flores has more on the duplex loophole. >> reporter: we are talking about the duplex loophole. it allows owner-occupied duplexes, if the owner lives there, they can essentially kick out the folks that live there. there are protections for folks who live in apartments and when they're going through evictions, but those don't apply to duplexes. so there's an effort to get this loophole closed. the city council first had to approve a resolution to put that on the november ballot. that's the issue the city council is tackling today. it's an uphill thpast, and it's facing major opposition from real estate groups. yesterday we spoke with council member lynette malcolm who said the groups haven't convinced her that closing the loophole is necessary. last week she introduced an ordinance to offer landlords a loan from the city to pay the evicted tenants for relocation. the ordinance will prevent long standing homeowners from having to sell their properties. >> advocates say this incentivizes eviction. >> i think they're wrong. the eviction is going to happen. we have so many african-

jessica flores is live with the latest for us this morning. jessica? >> reporter: macarthur bart station is back open, trains in service here this morning. this is where the deadly stabbing happened, two young women stabbed. bart says this was totally random. it happened about 9:45 p.m. last night and the station was closed as police investigated. one woman died, the other in the hospital. police are still searching for the suspect, described as a white man in his 20s or 30s with short hair and a heavy build. officials say it happened as the train doors were opening and the women were getting off the train. then the suspect attacked, then ran down the stairs and took off. the victims' identities have not been released but officials this morning say the system is safe. >> the situation on bart isn't any different this morning than it is any morning. we feel it's a safe system. we have a professional police force that's watching out for people's safety. >> reporter: bart at the scene it is reviewing surveillance footage to determine the circumstances of

jessica flores is there. >> reporter: i spoke to the owner of the popular mexican restaurant here and she confirms with me that law enforcement raided her business early this morning but she doesn't know why. you can sigh the grass broken where the door was kicked in. a lock on the ground inside. surveillance video from a nearby business shows an unmarked law enforcement vehicle driving on the sidewalk in front of the mexico restaurant. you can also see two law enforcement officials, one with a clearly marked sheriff shirt. but it isn't the only location law enforcement agencies swarmed early this morning. you can see doors kicked in at the neighboring apartment complex on poplar avenue and neighbors tell us tactical teams made several arrests. >> i see a lot of people in handcuffs and all of these police departments, they're like walking back and forth with -- we didn't have any explanation why they were there. >> reporter: the atf confirms it was involved in some of the activity and the san mateo police department said it assisted agencies in a multi- jurisdictional -- san mateo pol
