our political correspondent, jessica parker, gave me this update. letter earlier this week cross party saying that this sort of policy could be discriminatory. and i think that is why you were getting an emphasis for ministers that it will not be just about if you have the vaccine because only a certain portion have been offered, it won't be just the vaccine, it will be testing as well and whether you might have natural immunity because you had covid in the last six months. i think that is why they're emphasising that. a couple of tory mps who spoke to me says that it looks like pubs will not be involved in this. you don't need to improve your covid status to go in. that allays some fears, but some are still very much against this. there have been concerns about what some have called a checkpoint society. the government is saying this is a way of opening things up safely and we have been hearing from the sports minister this morning. the purpose here which is a learning experience _ the purpose here which is a learning experience is to see how we ca

earlier, i spoke to our political correspondent jessica parker about the new traffic light system foronal travel but started by asking her about the covid passport scheme in england. there had been quite a lot of focus on this idea you might have to present some sort of proof of your covid status to go into pubs and that seemed in particular to attract opposition, not least of all from some conservative backbenchers, it almost became this kind of focus where you really have to prove your status to go and get a point in the pub and it's notable it's not part of these plans although as nick reported, they aren't ruling it out later down the line. i suspect ministers will hope by leaving out hospitality venues and places like pubs, that might allay some concern expressed by some conservative mps but the announcement has been made overnight, we will have to see what the reaction is overnight and we will get more details tomorrow. more details on the trials of these covid passports. they've listed a number of venues and events that will be trialled. my understanding is these trials will be

let's speak now to our political correspondent, jessica parker. jessica joins us this morning.k has explained there will be a number of pilot events going forward, my understanding is those events will look at a number of things, testing on—site, ventilation, social distancing, and in terms of this idea of so—called vaccine passports or covid status certification, those kind of events are likely to happen later on in may as the government looks to see how this might work in future but i think part of what michael gove is trying to do in his article, he talks about practical, ethical questions, how they need to make sure they are proportionate and time—limited is to try and answer some of the criticisms that have come not least from their own backbenchers in terms of these plans. backbenchers in terms of these alans. ~ ., backbenchers in terms of these alans. ~ . , ., backbenchers in terms of these alans. . ., i. ., plans. whatever you call them, covid status certification, _ plans. whatever you call them, covid status certification, passport, - status certification, passport, w
