everyone, first, i want to go to cnn justice -- jessica snider with the news. jessica, we have a georgia judge rejected trump's efforts right now to disqualify fani willis, didier down at fulton county. so, what we know how tonight with that case where it stands? >> lord, that by the speaker court judge was definitely a win for the district attorney moving forward here. the judge there, when they disregarded these claims the district attorney should be qualified, the judge really applauded the dea for staying nonpartisan non, pull it, occult throughout this two and a half year investigation. fani willis does plan to announce whether there will be any indictment against the former president before september 1st. so, right now in georgia, there are currently two criminal grand jury is convened in fulton county. they are meeting several days this week and a district attorney will either, this week or next, then present her case to that grand jury. so the grand jury will then vote on any indictments, whether it is against trump or any of his associates who tried to

jessica snider has more. >> reporter: former president trump pleading not guilty to all charges as he appeared for his third criminal arraignment in the past four months. this time at the federal courthouse in washington, d.c., right as cross the street from the capitol building trump supporters stormed inside on january 6th. part of a broad effort to stop the certification of the 2020 election. trump sat in his trademark blue suit and red tie as the magistrate judge announced all four charges against him, including conspiracy to defraud the united states and obstruction of an official proceed ing. the maximum penalty on all charges is decades in prison. just 15 feet from donald trump inside the courtroom, special counsel jack smith, the man who is now charged trump with multiple counts in florida and washington. they staired at each other several times before the arraignment began. the most recent, accusing trump of conspireing to overturn the legitimate results of the 2020 election by spreading false claims of election fraud that trump knew were false. >> this is a persecution of a

cnn's jessica snider joins us now. hat did the judge have to say about the timeline as she was sitting that date? >> the judge actually said it would've been unprecedented to wait until the 2026 for a criminal trial to start. of, course that's what the trump team wanted. judge chutkan here, he actually tried trump's lawyers for not already prepping for this possibility for a quick trial in just six months. she stressed, you know, they knew this investigation was ongoing with the special counsel. as she put it, a zealous attorney wouldn't have just been waiting in the wings for an indictment. they would have been prepping for. this trump's lawyer, though, john laurel, he shot back. he said that he has just recently taken on this case. and then john, he bluntly told the judge, he said, look, i won't be able to provide effective legal assistance with a trial date this soon in just six months. and this is actually likely trump's team probably setting up the stage for an eventual appeal. theyrobably won't be able to appeal t

. >> jessica snider, thank you very much for that report. nn legal analyst elie honig. i want to ask you about what jessica was talking about. is this a reasonable request from fani willis to try all 19 defendants in this case at the same time in october? >> no, alex. and i don't believe that fani willis thinks it's a reasonable request. here is the way this works. the right to a speedy trial belongs to the defendant, not to the prosecutor here. so, if the defendant wants to insist on the right to a speedy trial, as mr. chesebro and sidney powell have done, then, yes, you have the right to be tried under georgia law in this case by november. but the prosecutor cannot force people who are unwilling to exercise that right to be tried that quickly. i think what fani willis is doing here is, a, she's making a statement, and that's perfectly appropriate to say we're ready on everybody, and, b, she's trying to get clarity from the judge, how many trials will there be and when will they be. >> jennifer, what do you think the strategy is here by fani
