chris jackson who is on the college board of trustees and actually represent robert davis, and jessica williams was given justice and diversity to the kids can and lisa came in and did a workshop on leadership. karen as well as johnson came out and spoke with the kids as well, too. so every friday, so the kids go to work monday through thursday and every friday they spend time and go over the skills or revisit the goals and we talk about the situational leadership. and we talk about the field trips that are coming up and they will present to the full commission on august 8th and present a cap stone project of everything that they learned over the summer. we want to say thank you to the partners at pec, and tom, srt and whurs bran and coldwell and also with david and associates and we are just looking forward to many more years of the ssip program. thank you. >> thank you, i know that my brother in the audience, don't you have an event coming up on the 40th anniversary that you should be required to give a shout out to? >> thank you, commissioner. >> that is a little bit of a plug. >> it will be

williams. we hope to see you right back here tomorrow evening. good night. >>> good evening, everyone. >> i'm jessica aguirre. it is bad there is no way around it but a beacon of hope tonight. a growing homicide rate has many locals feeling that san jose has fallen victim to police cuffs, increasing crime and gang warfare. but new numbers appear to paint a difficult picture and more optimistic picture. marianne favro has the details. >> reporter: there have been 29 homicides in san jose this year. but the police department has success stories to report including a decrease in gang violence. >> you've got basically high speed pursuits where suspects are discarding shotguns out the window. the officers -- there's a lot of heat on the gang members. >> reporter: the new violent crime reduction plan was launched in june. the s.w.a.t. team are focused on patrolling gang hot spots. the department says that plan seems to be working. >> you have the numbers going down and double digit reductions in violent crime and that is a step in the right direction. >> reporter: last year from january through june there

williams, we'll look back for you tomorrow evening. good night. have a happy fourth of july. >>> good evening, everyone, i'm jessica aguirre. >>> and i'm raj mathai. has been an accident at a summer camp for kids. many parents are reunited with their kids. a tree fell killing a camp counsellor and injuring four other people. it's a bay area based jewish based retreat. >> reporter: what i can tell you is we haven't seen a flood of parents coming to pick up their kids. we see a few people who are staff members leaving the camp. what we cannot see from this vantage point is where the tree fell. but we could see just a few minutes ago 50 campers, kids and counsellors playing basketball out here. we're talking about 250 kids, third graders to ninth graders who are here. the good news, none of them were hurt. there are 150 staff members include this staff member who was killed. she was going into her senior year at uc santa cruz. she died at 8:30 this morning at a campfire circle. four other women were hurt and taken to area hospitals. two of them suffered minor inju
