jetblue down by 14%, and ugly day for that airline. we are joined by walter todd, greenwood capital president and cio. great to have you with me. start broad and we will dial down. when we think about this earnings season and it feels like a lot of jitters have entered into the broad index as the s&p 500 definitely has seen massive declines over the past couple of days or so. what are the stakes heading into the meat of this reporting season? walter: good morning. the set up into this earnings season has been somewhat questionable because the earnings have been good, 75% of companies have beat the expectations. it is about the guidance. you are seeing a lot of companies that are beating expectations for the first quarter but maintaining for the year which is under the radar for the back half. there is still uncertainty from companies when you listen to them. we are seeing a nice rebound the last couple of days. there was a selloff but not a big percentage decline but certain corners like technology and others got hit hard. it is nice t

obviously, jetblue, spirit airlines, the regulators shut that down. you are a smaller airline.dy called you to acquire you or -- listen, whether you're looking at a some other airlines, i don't know. but it's a regulatory environment that is not very friendly right now. >> yeah, it's not. and it's okay, you know? with us. the big guys are pretty dang powerful, and, you know, the spirit/jetblue merger, maybe it was a good thing that didn't happen given the state of things. you know, we're trailblazing our own way. we're kind of all over the place. we just announced today that we made money for the first time in the march, month of marchment we expect to make money for this year, and that's a really the key. once you get profitable in this business and you find those markets where you can, where they're mature and, you know, you have economies of scale with your costs coming down and, you know, just getting to profitability and destroying has really been our goal, not eyeing any kind of consolidation. i don't think the justice department would allow it anyway, so i don't spend an

jetblue has made no comment on the incident.419 sfo pushing back against plans to rename the oakland airport the port of oakland is considering changing the name of the airport in the east bay at a meeting next week, changing it to san francisco bay oakland international airport. that proposed name change is intended to increase the awareness of the airport's location, and also to try to attract more travelers, but officials at sfo are opposing that name change. they say the name would be misleading and confuse travelers who are not familiar with the bay area. >> we would hate to see a situation where a traveler books thinking that they're going to one location, and then only when they land do they realize that they're somewhere else that they hadn't intended to go to. i can certainly understand the interest in growing business, but we don't think putting san francisco at the front end of an airport in oakland is the way to do it. >> now, leaders in oakland say the airport is on the san francisco bay, and they want travelers to

. >> you recently upgraded jetblue? >> it is in the middle of the turnaround.ink the prior leadership, under the leadership there was an exceptionally high tolerance for loss and there is a new ceo and president and we saw pretty aggressive cancellations for places like baltimore, kansas city, which are large money losers and you have a shareholder involved. a very negative sentiment and i would say the upgrade wasn't driven so much by valuation as it was the potential for sentiment to begin shifting in jetblue's flavor -- favor. that helped the stock. >> according to the ceo, demand seems to be strong. is there sign of a slowing in demand you can detect? >> honestly, no. i have taken the question as to whether some of the safety headlines might impact demand and at a high level it does not seem to be changing consumer behavior and i do see the occasional social media post like planes are falling apart and i will drive to orlando instead which is ridiculous and it is like buying cancer. no offense, but who thinks that way. we are really not seeing any slowdown

it is a bit different for companies like jetblue and spirit that are looking at too much capacity ine to where the demand is. they want the planes long-term but not right now, especially with those expenditures being what they are. sonali: heading into earnings season, what are you looking at in terms of potential surprises? >> i think if you take a step back from airlines i look at the broader industrial sector, you might start to see green shoots. we have been in a bit of a downturn. you have the ism crossing back into the expansion territory after 16 months of contraction. that matters. it has been a bit of overhang for industrial manufacturers as they deal with customers that overbought, had too much of maggiore coming out of the pandemic. we have seen a lot of that cycle through and you might see a little for got now. i don't think that showing a groundswell in demand for the industrial sector given how long this downturn was. but you can start to see things turn around a little on the manufacturing side. sonali: brooke sutherland, thank you. coming up, how former morgan stanley

jetblue, not a good day, okay? stock is down 17% right now. they are revised their second quarter sales down 10.5%, their full year was down single ding jilts. this is a really huge blow for their quest to return to profitability this year, significant cost cuts, learned more were coming and you can really see that divide deepening between jetblue and some of their competitors with those broader or networks. pepsico also out this morning. mentioned here. they beat on revenue and profit expectations, net sales rose 2.3%, but you can see the stock is down 2.3% right now. this is really all about a volume issue. it continues to be under pressure. you've got higher prices across divisions that's resulted in weaker demand, and it wasn't helped by a recall actually in their quaker segment. they did remain, guy dance remained the same -- guidance remained the same. stuart: show me ups, they're on the upside but only just. >> exact ally. this is about cost cutting. profit came in above estimates. their cost-cutting efforts
