we will die, but stories will remain an older jeter-- younger generations will learn about what we did, so i believe strongly. on a personal level, my-- when i wrote first about my experience i feel really changed how people view kids who are coming from war and the first experience i have that you write sometimes and you are surprised that how people take and what it does to them. you think i didn't really read it for that purpose, but i'm glad. a young man coming from another african war and ran to the us he became 19, so when he arrived and said he had been in war they put him in adult prison because they wanted to prosecute him as an adult because he had been in war. there was a law that said if you came as a former child soldier yet-- you would not be arrested, but if you came as a warlord you would be a diplomat. so, he was brought in front of a judge in new york and in my book they wanted me for a character witness and i went and the guy from the government said this guy is not from ivory coast and the judge said ishmael, my wife gave me your book and i read it.
