winds just gusted to 43 at jfk airport.gine at the airports especially from new york city, philadelphia and northwards will have the most significant delays and cancellations on this friday. thankfully it's just rain. we're not really dealing with igs ice or snow in new england. it's a different story in the great lakes. it's a winter wonderland anywhere in the state of michigan. it snowed hard last night, northern indiana and much of the state of ohio right now is seeing snow. careful driving, interstate 70 going across the lower portions of the great lakes and the ohio valley. and the winds are gusting, too. we probably have a little bit of blowing and drifting snow in indiana, michigan and ohio. and again, those winds this morning around new york city could get as high as 60 miles per hour. the worst of it coming in the next three hours. so keep that in mind as you're driving on the roads or doing anything outdoors. as far as snowfall goes, over the next 24 to 48 hours, we're going to get lake-effect bands. we're also go

>> reporter: craig, in fact, half of those cancellations have come from the new york airports and 180, jfkardia and newark as of this hour. in terms of the delays we are not seeing them mount as much as we would have thought at this time and one of the reasons that snow not quite working its way into the tri-state area just yet, but we are, nonetheless, seeing low ceilings and visibility issues and certainly wet runways as a result of the storm which will continue to crank along throughout the afternoon and the evening before winding down overnight into tomorrow and really impacting cities like boston which could pick up a foot. i would expect to see major delays for you. here in new york, we are anticipating those delays to continue to climb throughout the evening. one of the good things with this storm, versus the storm earlier this week is the winds are lighter with this so it won't be as much of an aviation problem. nonetheless, if you are traveling you will want to check ahead because we are anticipating anywhere from one to three inches of snow hitting the new york metro area by this

october 31, less than two days after the storm, at jfk and newark airports open it and the followinges not 40 yet restored flight operations. we were able to restore limited service one week after the storm and have restored service to all stations with the exception of hoboken. that terminal suffered the most extreme damage. the port authority has not traveled this road alone. many other agencies have been incredibly supportive. also have been other facilities and other states. what happens in our district and affects the nation. the effects rippled through the entire country. we must never lose sight that recovering is a national matter. as the governor noted, the past three years have shown storms are not reserved for once a century. it is critical we rebuild with greater resiliency and redundancy. we will rebuild but we need the government's help. the port authority receives no taxpayer money from either your or new jersey. we rely solely on user fees and all those revenue streams have their limitations. we are assessing exact costs of repair and recovery, but our needs are enorm

some airports reporting delays of over an hour, jfk or laguardia also as well, and we're starting toee that precipitation expanding into the northeast. so lately it's been impacting the northwest, yesterday across the south, and as we head into tonight, the worst of the storm will be felt across the northeast. coastal areas mainly dealing with areas of rainfall, but easily over 60 mile-per-hour gusts, and interior sections we're talking easily over a foot of snow throughout new england. so that's another concern aside from the travel delays that we're expecting to see throughout the day today and getting worse as we head into this evening and tonight. we do have a severe weather aspect. we saw over 30 reported tornadoes yesterday across parts of the south. today it's further off towards the east, across eastern portions of the carolinas, and there is currently a tornado watch -- we've had warnings go up across coastal areas because conditions are still favorable to see more tornadoes touching down, and this particular tornado watch basically meaning that tornadoes are possible here t
