in december, jill's behavior began to change a little bit. we noticed she began to pull away from the family. >> we worked very hard to let her do the things she wanted to do and keep it in a safe environment that we had some control over. and that was a difficult task and we worked long hours discussing it with her and what we felt was important and how she should behave. >> what went through my mind was initially the feeling that she was a teenager, i knew jill was very strong in hr personality and i knew that she was a good kid, a really good -- both my daughters are great kids. she was just exploring her sort of self-identity and i saw it as a way for her to become independent so i supported it. but it frustrated me that she was pushing away from the family. >> the day jill died i walked into her bedroom to wake her up around 11:00 am and i walked in and the dogs jumped up on the bed and she said a sweet hello to me. and i said i was concerned because she was sleeping late and i thought she should get up and get started on her day, becaus

friend had made about jill. and she thought, if somebody loves jill that much, maybe somebody loves me. i'm always touched by that. >> some day bullying will be something of the past. i also wanted to say we need to work and i see representatives here of cities and counties because those same children are on sports teams under the city rec department, they are receiving services and they are in programs with the county and so having this training, having this awareness go beyond the schools is really important. so i thought i'd mention that. the other thing that we are moving towards in education is more digital. we'll see less textbooks and more digital learning and with that we are promoting a digital literacy policy which deals with a number of issues and i'm going to go back and look at the draft policy to see how well it deals with the kind of issues rob and your family have dealt with in terms of using the internet safely and being aware of the harm you can do to yourself and to others by the way digital n

>> well, i think jill has got it exactly right. pro life movement are not at all happy with the progress made on overturning roe versus wade. so they are trying to see what is permissible, trying to test the court. other parts like the catholic church and other parts of the pro life movement think this could be overreaching. there's this jousting within the movement about how -- what is the best way to approach the e roe v. wade and can this be overturned with the roberts court. they're taking that areas and trying to move it forward. >>> it's interesting for those who follow first read from our political unit here. they made this case, when the economy is doing poorly, obviously people are looking at issues like jobs. but when the economy is doing better and we have, obviously, a stock market that is doing very well, some other economic indicators that are on the way up, then suddenly it switches to things like social issues. jill what do you think the implications are for maybe the 2014 congressional races if these kinds of bills

let's go straight to our foreign affairs correspondent jill dougherty. first of all, what is he accused of? >> well, he is accused of using a weapon of mass destruction and in this case it's an rpg. the rocket propelled grenades, using them outside of the united states, specifically in syria. his name is eric harun. he is 30 years old, apparently from phoenix. and he is being charged again with working with, fighting with al nusura in syria. it is a little bit different because he is working allegedly and fighting alongside against the government forces of bash ish al assad in other words on the side of the opposition. they say he served with the u.s. army from 2000 to 2003 and then most recently he went into syria and was part of a team using rpgs and other weapons. he was arrested tuesday night by the fbi in a hotel near dulles airport and we'll have to see. it is a very interesting and kind of different case of an american fighting for a terrorist organization according to the united states. >> according to the state department who listed it as a terr

now there is a line of demarcation happens and we want to be proactive i know jill is looking at me. when the event happens and there is harm that occurs we believe in restorative practices and repairing the harm. we don't believe in kicks kids out of school. that's not a solution. we are an educational institution. we go through this process and the perpetrator understands the damage and make it right to the victim. it's not okay shake hands. it's a whole process. you talk about it and process what is happening and people follow up on that, so we very much believe in this restorative process in san francisco and how do we know? because of the indicators that should be going up are going up and the others are going down. our truancies are down. suspensions are down and students in class is going up. thank you for being here.
