[applause] laura. thank you. so i am so proud that today we have secured a billion dollars in women's health research from different government agencies. our new agency, arpa-h, which is partner after d.a.r.p.a., which of the defense department program for advanced research projects agency for health that has driven breakthroughs in everything from the internet to gps. it had a big budget for doing everything else, but it also had a specific individual budget and , are part eight producing what darpa does for technology. diving breakthroughs to prevent detect and treat diseases including cancer, alzheimer's, diabetes and so much more. we are using the funding to drive breakthroughs in women's health in ovarian cancer, menopause, migraines, high blood pressure for pregnant women. t

we're joined now by cbs news business analyst jill schlesinger. she's in southampton, new york, this morning. senator ted cruz described tariffs and the threat thereof of leverage. what i'm curious about is do retailers view it as only leverage, do consumers view it as only leverage or are they beginning to change their behavior in anticipation? >> let's talk about all they're going to change their behavior. there were some retailers dangling this out around this holiday weekend. buy now because tariffs could make prices go up. i don't know what the motivation of most people is when they shop, but i'm not sure it's tariffs. what we do know about tariffs is remember this is a fee that is imposed on an imported good. the importing company, the u.s. company that takes that good in has to make a decision in that moment. and that company has to decide, are we going to eat it and maybe make less money this year, or are we going to pass it along to consumers. that is why consumers are a little unnerved by this and businesses are as well, because they're

protectionism now with bloomberg news editor jill disis. i wonder how businesses are preparing for the prospect of higher expenses, potential disruptions we just don't know whether the second trump administration is going to be a blueprint of the first. jill: that's right, uncertainty is really the key word here and something we are seeing from a lot of businesses worldwide. we've talked to everyone from german winemakers who are worried that trump could potentially bring back 2019 era tariffs. that's something that they are trying to get ahead of, may be front load orders for her. seeing a lot of concerns over what additional tariffs on chinese goods could look like even though trump signaled his campaign that he wanted to raise levees on china by as much as 16% depending on the goods, lots of uncertainty, especially when you see the trickle over into threats that trump is making not towards adversaries, but allies as well. you just have to look at the comments he made about potential tariffs on canada, it still has president-elect because
