jim mccluskey. jim and john. i've been on this platform much every week for the last 24 years or so. yeah. so i find it both humbling and inspiring to share this platform with. you. and a bit intimidating. i had the chance to read framed. i might be the only one in the room who's actually read it. because in preparation for conversation i was given the galley copy and i will not reveal any spoilers for the folks who are going to read it. and some have started now. i saw earlier in the evening. and i'll come back to jim in a minute, john. but how did you were you drawn to the work of the innocence project and the innocence community? was it related to your other only only nonfiction? yeah. yeah. i mean, i was a lawyer. i still think of myself as a lawyer. i was a lawyer for ten years in a small town in mississippi. many years ago. and i had i was, you know, starving to death. i had a lot clients, most of whom were indigent, criminal. and i did a lot of criminal work. and i never had a client. i thought was wrongfu

jim would have to them. jim lives every case. he had 71 exonerations in some of thewe cases didn't go so well put over 100 cases that he worked on over the years and it just talking to jim and reading quarter. and seeing all these incredible cases of and exonerations you get locked into it. every week there's another incredible exoneration. last year in virginia we exonerate the man to serve 48 years which is the record and the woman who served 45 years which was a record. this is human suffering so you read about the stories. we could have picked dozens of cases. we had to kind of pick and went thing we wanted to do is take the 10 cases, a total of 22 or 23 exonerees or innocent people and make it least half of them to be people because they don't believe there thousands of innocent people in prison. black people know know that in the afflicted and seen it and when i make a speech to a white audience i will say there thousands of innocent people in prison and you don't believe that because you are white. listen to me it's true,

jim: first it depends on who is in the seat. we do not know who will be at occ, the treasury department, these are all open seats. people matter. that is first and foremost. the second thing is, the regulatory system is quite complex with overlapping jurisdiction of different federal agencies. to actually have a relaxation of the regulatory constraints, there has to be coordination among various federal agencies. it takes time. it will take time. sonali: do you think there is a paradigm shift going on? you think about a whole generation of bankers that were not working in the 2008 run-up. they do not realize what it looked like. do you think deregulation could create that again? jim: it may be true in the financial institutions that there are few of us left who were there and went through that from a but it is not true in the regulatory community. there could be a wholesale slaughter of regulators at all levels under the trump administration i doubt it. the fed, the treasury department, the occ, they have a deep institutional me

i'm jim acosta in washington. we start this hour with new headwinds facing two of president-elect donald trump's key cabinet picks, pete hegseth for secretary of defense and tulsi gabbard for the director of national intelligence. despite having a republican senate majority, some lawmakers say they have serious questions about their record, which could threaten their upcoming confirmation hearings. cnn's alayna treene is live for us in west palm beach, florida. elena, what's the latest right. >> well jim, i think when you look at how quickly donald trump has moved to fill out the core cabinet for his second administration, now really, the attention at mar-a-lago is turning to how they are going to get some of these controversial picks through their senate confirmation processes and two of the names that are really i think, you know, we're hearing from people on capitol hill but also the trump team recognize this might have some there might be some concerns about that they need to assuage among members on the hill

jim o'neil joins us today, former uk treasury minister. great to have you, jim. question is to what degree do you think yield also be as suppressant on prices and activity? >> well, i don't know. i think my answer to a lot of the issues that you just touched on in the previous shows, i don't know. it's interesting that on your first hour of trading today, just looking at prices, the bond market is running quite a bit. i might have missed something behind that, but that's a bit of a relief, i think, for many markets outside the u.s. where there is a lot of concern about mature policies and ongoing significant rise in bond yields. and obviously, it's going to greatly depend on the hints what trump will do relative to what he claimed he would do ahead of the election. i'm going to get some side of that to a degree by some of the people he will probably appoint. a lot of talk in places like the ft for example today, that scott peasants is a sure-in, but we'll have to way and see. but obviously for this roaring stock market, which yesterday was truly quite remarkable,

jim. know, the good news is yesterday was pretty busy. today is going to be even busier. the tsa says that they're expecting about 2.8 2.9 million people nationwide at airports today. yesterday we saw about 2.6 million people at airports nationwide, which is about a 2% increase from where we were this time a year ago. remember, thanksgiving fell on a different day, so it's a bit hard to get a perfect metric. so far, this week, the numbers, though, have been pretty huge. we've seen about 7.5 million people screened at airports nationwide. just a chunk of the 18 million in total that the tsa is anticipating. the goal is to keep these lines moving relatively quickly. the standard for standard screening to get through there. the goal is about half an hour or less, according to tsa administrator david makovsky. the goal if you have precheck ten minutes or less. but i want you to listen now to what he told me in an interview. he says that things will be so busy this week that in some cases, the
