jim, when you are at sloan-kettering and md anderson, how was the interplay between you is a basic scientist and clinicians dealing with the reality of cancer in the clinic? how has that influenced or impacted your hypothesis generation, your trajectory of research? >> a lot of it is just learning from then a sense of urgency, patients need help and we need to work as quickly as we can. but also, when i was in sloan-kettering, i learned about that the animal model -- you have to go the extra distance for humans. there is no perfect trial you have to try it on people and realize you are dealing with things that could harm the patient as well. there is a balance between those two. moving a drug fast enough to help people but not so fast that you cause harm. i also learned that you can also , clinicians, the value of doing trials in small numbers of patients and analyzing much in the way we would amounts experiment and dissecting on a cellular and molecular level what we did was. so even if you don't have a homerun, you can learn enough that you can try something new. if you add two things toge
