jim. >> axelrod: thank you, bill. if there is one area of possible agreement in the senate it's the need for improvements in the treatment of the mentally ill with a focus on identifying troubled youths before they take a deadly turn. cbs news correspondent dawn dailier has that part of the story. >> reporter: that adam lanza had serious issues before he massre26 adultes and children was obvious to many, including, apparently, his own mother. aurora movie theater shooter james holmes' psychiatrist was so concerned she report him to campus police. yet, near lanza nor holmes would have been flagged nay background check, not lanza because it was his mother who bought the weapons, and not holmes, because he had never been institutionalized for mental illness. criminalinologist james fox of northeastern university says mass killers are impossible to spot until after the fact. >> the irony is that these mass killings are the very kind of crimes that are least preventable bilet kind of gun legislation we're seeing today. >>

." >> good evening, i'm jim axelrod with a west coast edition of the broadcast. for the last month they've been looking for kor killers of three people including two prosecutors in kaufman, texas. about 30 miles southeast of dallas. in the last 72 hours the search for clues has narrowed it to two locations and apparently one man. we have two reports tonight beginning with manual bojorquez. >> investigators search the storage facility saturday about 10 miles from where the murders happened. they pulled a white crown victoria from one unit. also multiple guns, ballistic tests are being done on the weapons to see if they are connected to the murders. just a day before the search focused on the kaufman, texas, home of a man who knew the victims. eric williams. williams is a former kaufman county justice of the peace. he was fired last year after being convicted of stealing computer equipment from the county. >> there's three monitors missing. one's on your desk. >> uh-huh. >> right now. where are the others. >> reporter: assistant district attorney and district attor

i'm jim axelrod. the federallationave administration is ordering all its air traffic controllers back to work. the f.a.a. says control towers will be fully staffed again by tomorrow night. this follows a rough week on runways across the country. more than 5,000 delays and hundreds of cancellations. 15,000 air traffic controllers had been furloughed after mandatory federal budget cuts known as the sequester, and there simply weren't enough of them to handle the volume. as carter evans reports, congress' solution to this problem may create plenty of others. >> reporter: it seems members of congress couldn't eave washington fast enough for their week-long recess, even after a rare show of unity. both sides agreed to quickly end the air traffic controller furloughs, whic which caused thousands of flight delays. is what we saw congress at its best or congress at its worst? >> i don't think it's congress at its best. >> democratic congresswoman karen bass arrived home friday night on time but with plenty of

i'm jim axelrod.we are boston, we are strong, we are boston strong"-- that was the message of an emotional ceremony at fenway park before the boston red sox game this afternoon and the feeling throughout the city after the capture of dzhokar tsarnaev, suspect number two, in the boston marathon bombing. here's the latest. tsarnaev is in serious condition in the hospital, under heavy tard. he is unable to talk to investigators, we are told. no charges have been filed yet. s bombing victims are still in hospitals, six are critical. 12 victims are at beth israel, where tsarnaev is also being treated. we have team coverage tonight, beginning with dean reynolds. >> reporter: when a watertown neighbor saw someone bleeding in his backyard boat last night, he called the cops. and when a state police helicopter with special heat- sensing technology spotted the contours of a body in that boat, law enforcement moved in. as jim axelrod learned today from someone who used to box with him, it seemed within the last year ortwo that tamerlan changed somehow. he became quieter and sort of more disciplined. there was a photo essay that appeared a number of years ago, the exact date is a little unclear. but it showed pictures of tamerlan training this in the boxing rinanthere were a number of captions attacd to that essay. in one of them tamerlan says "i don't have a single american friend. i don't understand them." he also described himself in those captions as a muslim. he said he didn't smoke or drink anymore. he said "there are no values anymore." and worried that people can't control themselves anymore. again, tamerlan, this is the brother, the 26-year-old who was killed in that garage of gunfire last night. as you said, scott, 200 rounds. it is his younger brother, dzhokar, who is only 19, a college sophomore, who is apparently in hiding right now in that boat in the backyard in watertown. >> pelley: if, indeed, he is the one that the police have cornered in that backyard. anthony, thank you very much.
