joining me now, the nasa administrator jim bridestine. thank you for being here. eight years since the shuttle program has shut down. what is the future of u.s. space? >> the president has given us an amazing charge, what we call space policy directive one which as we will go to the moon differently than we have ever done. this time it will be sustainable in other words we will stay. he also said to go with commercial partners, international partners and this is fascinating, to use the resources of the moon. we now know that there is hundreds of millions of tons of water ice, what does that mean? water ice is life support, air to breathe in water to drink and rocket fuel if you can imagine. hydrogen and oxygen is the same fuel that powers space shuttles and its abundant on the surface of the moon. we want to take these capabilities and technologies and apply them eventually for a mission to mars. the president has given us a big agenda and he has had to do it by 2024. >> bret: is not in part because other countries are doing it? >> without question other countries
