and that's where we find weather channel meteorologist jim cantore. jim, good evening. >> reporter: lester, they're calling this the worst flooding on lake shore drive since 1987. you can see why. behind me massive waves still crashing over the seawall here. the blue lights behind me are of course lake shore. those are northbound traffic lights you see coming obviously with the water coming up on both the northbound and southbound lanes, traffic is moving very slow and in some cases it's even having to stop. this is just part of the storm that will affect everybody east of the rocky mountains. let's talk about it here as we work our way into saturday. mostly, again, a rainmaker down in the valleys, but in the mountains it will be snow especially for the central and southern appalachians. sunday that cold air moves east. it will be colder in northern florida than it will be in new york city on sunday morning. and the snow forecast anywhere from six to 12 inches in the tennessee and north carolina mountains where some spots in tennessee and north carolin

>> jim cantore probably has and has the latest forecast. hi, jim. >> yeah.ooks like three arctic outbreaks over ten days and each one has a chance for a little bit of a snow pack and going to act as a refrigerator and let's deal with the first one. most shocking to us as it's been today for folks in oklahoma city, kansas city, and chicago, look at the winds in oklahoma city. 28 miles per hour. temperatures are dropping off. windchills in the 30s. feels brutal. look at denver. 3. they dropped 40 degrees yesterday in 4 hours in denver. that's a frontal passage, ladies and gentlemen. very, very cold windchills and driving to the east. biggest changes of oklahoma city, kansas city and chicago and when you drop 30 degrees, you know, that's a whole different closet for most people. that's winter clothes, gloves, hats. this is heading to the east. because of this big trough and pattern, we have an omega block. with a ridge over northwest pacific, it allows the air to come down and basically right down into the united states and building up a snow pack here, each on

the weather channel's jim cantore tweeted it out. unreal. >>> sheena? >> that is absolutely just absurd if you want to think about it in that way. the snow is just piling above people's heads. and even over their roofs. so that is really why they want to get a lot of the snow off. they don't want their roofs to cave in. again, the warm temperatures coming, too. they will be coming for us, but we actually have some arctic air returning as early as tonight. we will see another cold day tomorrow, but the good news is we do have a warmup coming. now, as far as the cold air is concerned, it is moving into the area right now. it is not too far to our north and west. so there you see 20s in buffalo right now. mid 20s. and this air is moving in our direction. we're in the mid 40s at the moment. a mild day. all this air will continue to move in tonight and we will stay cold. the warmup coming later on this weekend. tracking rain in the forecast, too. not until the end of the weekend. we're looking at rain and not snow in the next system because of how warm it wi

three-quarters of the way up, jim cantore warned me i was going to face more fierce winds coming off there because i wanted to see how bad it was going to be. and at the end i thought i did that really quick. i should have stopped. but all's well that end's well. glad to be on solid ground. >> the next walk you did, of course, blindfolded. what's ta like to have that sense taken from you? how important is your vision in doing what you do? how many adjustments did you have to make? >> up until recently i thought it was impossible to walk a wire without vision. my parents always told me to focus on the other end, that's the solid rock, and focus on that. you'll make it across to the other side. to take that important element out was extremely challenging and wire walking was definitely second nature to me. seven generations, it's in my blood. but definitely challenging mentally. it's very, very draining. there was no time to thenk about it. i knew i had to get over that wire. basically i told myself i'm going to torture you mentally for 2 1/2 minutes but i know you're going to make it

cantor. the departure removes three big area players from the appropriation process, the folks who have been bringing home the bacon. >> or pork. that's true. people have generally relied on frank wolf, jim moran and eric cantor to look out for this state in matters of getting contracts, defense contracts. let's not say the rest of the delegation is sleeping on this. they aren't. they are on other committees. the appropriations committee is where you get into this stuff, really and of course as long as senator john warner was there because of his prestige and his longevity, he was able to deal with the state very, very well and allowed other senators to do other things. you don't have john warner or these three new fellows. you have other people coming in. not much seniority. how much elbow room will they have in getting goodies for virginia. mark warner has one term under his belt and tim kaine who is barely through his first term. they are low if you want to say on the experience side. so it's kind of a crap shoot out there. nobody knows exactly how well this will go. in times of tight budget, sequester they need all the help they can get. >> frank wolf has already said virginia is goi
