on the latest from the storm, let's go to meteorologist jim cantore. nk, jim. >> jim cantore never looked so good. we are back with the winter storm hitting parts of the east coast. take a look at this videof a highway in baltimore, maryland, late last night. the driving conditions were ready taking a hit there sometime before midnight in that area. it looks pretty treacherous. >>> let's get another look from nbc meteorologist bill karins. bill? >> well, we did taken a in-depth look at the snowfall amounts. these storms can bring coastal flooding, but this is moving so quickly that it has not built up at the coast. we have high tide that we are minorly concerned about. but the blue is the snow spreading rapidly to the north. it is as advertised outside of the big cities. north and west of philly, north and west of i-95, the new york city area and southern new england, it is snowing as hard as you would expect it to be in a nor'easter, two to three inches an hour. we are starting to get the snowfall rates. and it is the interior sections of the new engla

that was the weather channel's jim cantore. reporting on this megastorm slamming new england.tts. the storm though still working it's way through new england. some areas could get more than two feet of snow by the time this is over. ann thompson joins us from boston. i know they closed the schools there, what's it like on the ground? >> reporter: steve, i'll tell you right now, it's pretty crumby. the rain and snow mix is coming straight down. at times earlier today, it was literally snowing at an angle, but that has stopped. you know, jim cantore was having a blast out there near wooster, but i can tell you here in boston, it's been a really serious situation. and let me show you some videotape from earlier today as a tractor-trailer tried to make it's way across the bridge. that's the bridge that crosses the charles river here in boston. and it jackknifed. somehow, miraculously, nobody was hurt, including the driver, but it is a treacherous situation out there. as a result, the city of boston is going to put down some 4,000 tons of salt before the night is over. schools are

for the latest on the storm, let's go to the weather channel's jim cantore. >> stella!r ] >> new information from the nation's capital to morning. federal agencies are on a three-hour delay because of the storm. take a look at this video. just down the road in baltimore last night, driving conditions already taking a hit, sometime before midnight in that area. for more on the storm, let's go right to meteorologist bill karins. bill is this. >> well, cal, we talked a lot about the snowfall predictions with the storm. i want to briefly show the overall map. the highest totals are i-95 north and west, that's all areas outside the big cities. no longer looks like a big historic storm for the cities, even new york totals are lower, same for boston. but interior sections, a 12 to 24-inch storm, the mountains of the poconos, catskills, maybe two feet? the winds are also going to be a problem. the storm because it's a little closer to the coast, still getting high winds. winds picking up in philadelphia about 7:00 a.m. this is at noon today, 41 in new york city. look at montauk

i want to bring in jim cantore live in milbury, massachusetts. what you got?ndersnow, thundersleet? what's the word? >> how did you know i was going to be on the lookout for that? we haven't seen it it yet but laguardia airport in new york had thundersleet in the last hour. in the last 45 minutes, it's gotten ugly here prp all you're seeing is plows on the road. governor baker said i want you off the road. governor malloy of connecticut are saying we have a ban and people are heeding that. when plows get out there and they have free reign on the roads, they're going to get the roads clear quickly. that said, some of the worst of this is west of the i-95 corridor, places like scranton, binghamton, danbury, connecticut, brattleboro, vermont, nashua, new hampshire, they're you'll goiall going to feet of snow. and on the new jersey shore and delaware shore we've had gusts from 50 to 60 miles an hour and the winds are getting stronger as they move up. we have a long-duration storm. the kind of snow that's coming down here that's moving into boston right now, even t
