jim cavanagh joins us, msnbc analyst. you know, jim, we weren't sure whether they would come out.of the investigation to federal authorities. not a lot of details. not wanting to answer any questions either here. what do you make of what we learned in the last two or three minutes? >> yeah. not much from the presser, but we know a lot from the events of today, richard. it's pretty much situation normal. the joint terrorism task force is going to lead this and looking at it. in a doesn't cut anybody out. this is total teamwork here from seaside park police to the ocean county sheriff to the new jersey state troopers, to the federalalities, homeland security, fbi. everybody will work together. an advantage. seaside park is a very small town and some of the shots you can actually see the bay from the bomb scene which is down, you know, d street. very familiar with the area. i've walked this boardwalk many times. it's very small. so this is a big advantage for witnesses to lock down video on the boardwalk in seaside park and in seaside heights. they need a lot of detectives and office

. >> jim cavanagh, what is your sense about the approximapolice whether keith scott had a weapon, his wife said he doesn't have the weapon. you have the officers saying repeatedly drop the gun, drop the gun, what is your reading here based on this? does it shed any light on it? >> i think it does, steve, the totality of the circumstances show that mr. scott had a gun. but having a gun does not mean that the shooting is justified. so let's just back up for a minute. so the police chief said they found a gun there? there is a photograph that is released a few days ago of the gun at the scene and now this video is released. if this video is broken down very carefully you can see behind the officer in the red shirt just after mr. scott is shot, the object on the ground behind him. the officer moves his left foot and sort of straddles that item. i believe it's the pistol. it starts on the nbc frame about 105 seconds into it. 108 the officer moves his left leg back and straddles that pistol. he stays with it, later on, with the still shots taken the officer moved ahead to mr. scott and they
