he's been campaigning with several national democrats this week, jim clyburn, vice president kamala harris president biden. the democratic governors' association sent out a last minute fund raising e-mail that was picked up by some news outlets warning of, quote, disaster if mcauliffe loses this race. mike, you see this, democrats and republicans send out endless amounts of fund raising e-mails, but it is a bit of the tone you're getting on the mcauliffe campaign warning of a major problem if glenn youngkin is elected here. and certainly, the national case for all of this -- even the vice president acknowledging this is very much a bellwether for what they're facing in the 2022 midterms which were upcoming this just about a year. mike. mike: anxious times down the home stretch. rich edson is, many thanks. glenn youngkin is starting his day in southwestern virginia, and that's where we find alexandria hoff. what's the latest with the republican nominee for governor? >> reporter: yeah, mike, glenn youngkin just attended a worship service here today, the second of five stops he will be making

that is something jim clyburn talked about months ago was that if we want to carve out anything out of this filibuster we need to do it for civil rights, for human rights issues. roe v. wade, voting rights. in many respects one might even say the ability for safety from police might be a human right. that being some element of the george floyd justice in policing if you really want to stretch the constitutional definition of what human rights are. but listen. kevin mccarthy is sitting in the house praying that things like this don't happen. and mitch mcconnell had no compunction about the filibuster as well. it has been carved out for some issues. it should be carved out for this as well. >> when you say including the george floyd justice in policing i have zero issue with the idea of not being killed unjustifiably by police in america should be a human rights issue. that is not complicated. >> that's what i would think. you know, individuals who don't agree with that, they should -- we should take away their american card on that one. >> representative, always good to see you democrat

in a letter to gold jim clyburn, who chairs the committee, says he's "deeply concerned" that gold's organizationliberate spread of misinformation about the coronavirus. clyburn also quotes a report that dropped a few days after our story, and it's based on hacked documents that appear to show that the organization gold links to from her site that provides $90 consultations and unproven medications like hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin, they took in $6.7 million in just a two-month period apparently. clyburn also claims that gold and her organization by promoting falsehoods may be putting american lives at risk and also hindering the effort to just get us all out of this pan demk. >> but in the meantime she'll be free to spread misinformation? >> yeah, she is. and here's the big issue with that. she's also still a licensed medical doctor here in california. and that gives undeserved credence to what she says. and let's not forget president trump was a fan. retweeted some of her nonsense. >> that's how a lot of people saw it. nick watt, thank you for staying on this. thanks to all of you for join

majority whip in south carolina congressman jim clyburn is campaigning for him in virginia, along withost of virginia democrats and both president biden and vice president kamala harris, just last week alone. mcauliffe's schedule has him hitting the democratic heavy areas of the state, northern virginia's, d.c. suburbs, richmond, and then down in the southeast corner of the state in norfolk tomorrow. early in-person voting ended late last evening. there had been 1.1 million virginians who have cast their ballots. that's about 20% of all the outstanding virginia ballots in voters here. a good chunk of the electorate has already voted. that started in mid september. mcauliffe says that gives him an advantage, especially since the poll numbers were much better for mcauliffe just a few weeks ago. jon? >> jon: rich edson, rich, thanks. >>> for more on this, we're joined by a republican running to be virginia's next attorney general. jason, talk about that last point that rich made. a lot of early voting. a lot of votes already in the bin. and most of the observers say that tends to favor th

the democrats are bringing in jim clyburn to see if he can play the closer role the same way he helped joe biden in the presidential election. but it's also white suburban women. are they going to turn out and who are they going to vote for? so it's these sort of dual turnout and messaging initiatives in the closing days that are going to be really important for terry mcauliffe. and you know, youngkin is this interesting figure. he kind of has the mitt romney vibe and he's keeping a distance from trump kind of but courting the trump voters and throwing out a lot of chum in the water about transgender issues, all the sort of cultural stuff. he's a really interesting candidate but has tried to keep a distance from trump in theory because trump is not the president and not currently a candidate for office. i think as we move into the midterm season and trump either does or doesn't assert himself more even if youngkin does win republicans will be emboldened by it but i think the challenge of that kind of messaging, keeping your distance while courting that base, is probably going to become

jim clyburn said today we need to stop focusing on the top line number and what goes in it or comes out of it because we don't know that either. >> the question about that, bres, what i haven't heard lawmakers articulate, and maybe we're not at that point in the process yet, if you go from $3.5 trillion to $1.9 trillion, what of substance do you lose? does that mean no universal pre-k, does that mean no subsidized community college? do you have any sense that have? >> this is exactly what they're dealing with now. $2 trillion is still an awful lot of money. you can do a lot with $2 trillion. but you can't do everything that the democrats are talking about. remember, bernie sanders and congresswoman jayapal, pramila jayapal who is the head of the progressive caucus, they were talking about a 6 to $10 trillion package. now, you would probably -- there would be difficulty on sanders pushing medical expansion, health, dental, vision programs. those are very expensive expansions of the medicare program. they may be in trouble. you may not be able to fully phase them in for a couple of years.
