let's bring in congressman jim himes of connecticut, he's the ranking democrat on the house. congressman, thanks for joining us. based on what you've seen and heard, does the u.s. know who exactly was behind this attack? >> we will soon, jay, as you sense from the pentagon briefing. attribution is not 100% done yet but we know who's operating in the area and we know who has the capability, at the end of the day it's a somber day because you look at the pictures of those young people who were just serving their country. attribution is important but whoever it was, it was somebody who was operating with the permission of iran. knowing that every time they attacked the us-based there was some chance we would get fatalities. we spent time thinking what happens when there are u.s. fatalities and now we are in that world. so the response is going to be important and hopefully, calibrated in such a way as to send a very strong signal without increasing dramatically the odds that we get into a shooting war with iran. >> how much do you blame iran and you see this as a direct escalati
