host: a response from jim laurie. guest: 24 your comment. i would like to venture into the -- thank you for your comment. i'd like to venture into the financial aspects and have the impact american commercial television. it is fairly clear that the advertising arena creates a certain desire for a certain type of content. i will not get into that, but i want to address the issue of why the chinese ventured into this area of 24/7 news. it is that they wanted to be part of the conversation with al jazeera english, with russia today, with france 24, with the bbc and cnn international. there has been a perception that media, internationally, for many years has been dominated by cnn and bbc. i think there has been, particularly in the last 10 years, a situation where a lot of countries, including china, are saying, we need to have parts of this pie, if you will. we need to be able to present alternatives to what the bbc and what cn and and the big players are doing. host: 1 at person rights and, cctv does this. let's look at a show called 24 china
