i'm jim rosenfield. the hottest weather of the summer settles in. let's get right to glenn "hurricane" schwartz with your first alert neighborhood forecast. and it's a hot one. >> we've been warning you about this for a week. we had the first alert for much of the philadelphia area, the p.a. suburbs, new jersey, delaware, even up toward the lehigh valley now, through sunday. a combination of the heat and extremely high humidity, making it feel like it's up to 110. and that's no exaggeration as you'll see. near 90 in delaware with sunshine. lehigh valley near 90. 92 in philadelphia. we hit 95 degrees today. but how it felt, wow, it feels like 101 now in philadelphia. 100 in allentown. 103 vineland. 111 in dover. that number was up to 114 an hour ago. now, we have most of the area rain-free, but we do have a couple of thunderstorms in bucks county right now. as you can see, a lot of lightning right near buckingham. this storm is moving slowly to the east. and there is a flood advisory for that portion of the area. we'll talk more about future storms a

i'm jim rosenfield. we begin with that 6-year-old girl in had critical condition tonight after police believe she was hit by a stray bullet. she was standing outside her home in germantown when she was hit tonight. nbc 10's brandon hudson is joining us live outside st. christopher's hospital in north philadelphia. brandon, how is she doing right now? >> jim, i just spoke to her mom within the last hour. she told me her 16-year-old niece has broken ribs and a collapsed lung. all of this because someone fired 21 gunshots on her street while she was playing outside hitting this young girl twice. an intersection littered with bullets in the germantown section of philadelphia. police discovered at least 21 of them in the street, in two cars and inside a 6-year-old girl. we believe, due to the fact that she was just 6 years old, that she was struck by a stray bullet. >> philadelphia chief inspector scott small says the little girl was playing in front of her had house when she was hit. our nbc 10 camera was ke

i'm jim rosenfield. the summer heat is now blamed on a fourth death in philadelphia. 72-year-old man in west philadelphia died. he also had other serious health problems. nbc 10 was on the schuylkill banks this afternoon and these people braving the heat to get some exercise and some were prepared. saw quite a few carrying water along the way. the way to go in these extremes. nbc 10 also down on the shore in cape may. some relief on the beach today as the mercury didn't climb quite as high as it did the last couple of days and nbc 10 first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is tracking our extended heat wave. any end in sight, glenn? >> i think we'll be seeing relief in the form of low humidity in a couple of days. the temperature eventually by the weekend will be getting down significantly, but for tomorrow it's a different story. the first alert is extended for philadelphia, the p.a. suburbs, new jersey and delaware and through tuesday evening. toys going to feel like anywhere between 88 and 108, and, again, you've got to hydrate when

i'm jim rosenfield. hillary clinton leads donald trump by ten points nationally. nbc's latest poll.ut tonight we have new numbers that appear to be very lopsided across the state of pennsylvania. here's a look county by county. the dark blue area in the bottom right corner, that's philadelphia. heavily favors hillary clinton. the counties in light blue also lean toward clinton. voters in the red areas support trump. it's the counties in purple that are split. berks, lehigh and hampton counties could make the difference in november. also having an impact on pennsylvania's senate race, where republican pat toomey is often forced now to answer for the man at the top of his party's ticket. we sent lauren mayk to ask him if that's a problem for his campaign. lauren? >> republicans across the country are being asked to weigh in on trump. it's sometimes controversial comments. but pat toomey, he's in this tight senate race. so will he go with the top of the ticket or go it alone? either way,

good evening, everybody, i'm jim rosenfield. william lynn was the first catholic church official charged and convicted in helping to shield child molesters. a judge overturned the ruling last week. three hours ago william lynn walked out of the prison about 20 miles outside scranton. only nbc 10 was there. nbc 10's rosemary connors joins us live from center city now with more on what's next. rosemary? >> reporter: well, jim, here at the district attorney's office in center city, prosecutors over the coming months will be mapping out their case against monsignor william lynn for a second time. now, his new trial is expected to be scheduled for sometime next year. but already, plenty of people are weighing in on the case. and his release from prison earlier today on $250,000 bail. in center

. >> and i'm jim rosenfield. we begin with that breaking news at the jersey shore this evening.least five people were shot and one of them is dead. this is all happening in egg harbor township outside this wawa on tilton road, and also on the garden state parkway. nbc 10 jersey shore bureau reporter ted greenberg is joining us live once again from the scene outside the wawa with late breaking details. ted? >> reporter: yeah, jim and jackie, this wawa parking lot is one of the two crime scenes under investigation right now, and we actually just had to move our camera and truck position because investigators need to process a larger section of the parking lot. as you said, state police said five people were shot and one of them is now dead. >> this bullet-riddled ford expedition came in the parking lot in the wawa outside of the international airport outside of egg harbor and moments later irwin ashford said it almost hit his car. >> they almost sideswiped me coming in, and when they parked, boy, the driver was like can you please help us? can you please help us? we've been shot.
