again, my name is jim ryan and i am joined here with my colleague from curriculum and instruction angela torez, it is the requested action is that the board of education adopts the following instructional materials in support of the high school curriculum in selected high school math and ap stats and ap calculus, the ap stats book is the practice of statistics by daren stars and david more, and dan and the ap calculus is the single variable, 7th edition by james stewart. the, we ended up here because this past fall, due to increased enrollment in our advanced placement stats and calculus courses as well as wear and tear on the previous books caused us to relook at the books that we currently had in that we were currently using in these courses and we needed additional books. unfortunately, the materials used in both of those courses were 2003 copy write and they were over ten years old and we could no longer order the current edition, and so to replenish the materials just so that we had enough for next year would have meant that we would have had to purchase all new books in the or of t

this year the stem team led by jim ryan, who's fantastic, has laid out a beautiful math curriculum that was developed unit lessons with teachers so the training this year is much more integrated with the math together and then next year we'll do the next science standards. i think this year -- first of all, i think we did a really good job this year with the training and development and it will be even stronger next year because there's more integration. to the tech companies, they're not telling us what the curriculum should be. what we're saying to them is help us afford the i pads, the wireless, the stipends for the teachers and we're doing that with new funders who are coming to us. she's going to be driving how the technology's integrated. we're not buying anything from the vendors that we don't want. we're looking at our own curriculum and then picking and choosing from the marketplace what are those apps that work. i will also say we are working with a lot of the tech companies around -- we made a decision this year to be multiplatformed so that we aren't held hostage just by one
