want go back to jim sciutto and colonel leighton. i mean, jim, what do you make of the israelis at this point saying, well, we don't see anything yet. i guess the yet part is the key word well, it appears that the u.s. has intelligence shared with the israelis that they saw preparations for launch, us has enormous capabilities to do that via satellite, as well as what other assets in the region doesn't mean that they've launched yet. now, you have some time after launch, though, less depending on the munitions itself, a ballistic missile. best estimates takes about 12 minutes to get from iran to here in israel drones take several hours. cruise missiles take a few hours. it's all about speed, right but the fact that israel has not seen one yet does not mean that they wouldn't, they're not going to see one in the coming minutes, hours, or days and depending on the number and the quality of each munition, they'll have a certain amount of warning time here listen, this is this is significant. i think the most significant piece of informat

>> jim sciutto mentioned that the u.s. had referred to a palestinian american and the west bank being killed possibly. do you know anything about that or any other any other casualties? >> well, this large scale attack happened just recently we're still assessing the situation i can tell you in the moment we know of multiple people injured and we know of a palestinian who was killed by this attack in the area of jericho and we are still assessing the situation because this scale of attack is one of the largest attacks we've seen definitely in the history of israel, maybe in the history of ballistic missiles attacks and this outrageous attack, i think the number of casualties is so slow, not because this wasn't one of the most largest attacks, but because one our civilians and listening to the home-front guidance and basically, most of israel hiding in bomb shelters for over an hour. we're talking about 10 million people hiding bomb shelters from this attack in over an hour. and we're also talking about a very impressive pr

let's bring in cnn's jim sciutto, who is live in jerusalem. so jim talk to us a little bit about what you're hearing from your sources about israel's capability to enter iranian airspace, like we saw on saturday that's right rahel sources telling me that as part of this elaborate and quite large scale attack by israel on iran involving some 100 warplanes that's some of those israeli jets breached iranian airspace to carry out these attacks. not all of them, many fired from a distance, but some breach the airspace. we already knew that it was a multi-level of attack that included taking out air defenses, not just in iran, but also in iraq syria, and then striking multiple targets inside iran, including around the iranian capital tehran. so it's a long-range attack. it's an elaborate attack. it required refueling in the air given the distances from israel to iran and that shows you israel's capabilities, which by the way, might very well be part of the messaging here, right from israel to iran to say here's what we struck for now, largely militar

jim sciutto, ben wedeman. thank you so much to both of you. stay safe joining us now to discuss retired us air force general philip breedlove, the former nato supreme allied commander of europe general. thanks so much for joining us so israel is warning that it has the means to strike anywhere in the middle east what do you see as israel's most strategic next step? what would you advise israel to do? >> well, thanks for having me on and i think we have to go back to the first set of strikes earlier in the year where they shot 110 missiles in. and because the u.s. and others help israel intercept those, the effect was low. and the united states implored israel to not respond in a big way and israel led a very, very measured response. so now, iran is back with a much larger strike, and i think what it's going to be hard this time to convince israel to not have a more forceful reply. there are multiple to both things. they could strike, they could strike that petrochemical infrastructure. they could strike military targets. and of course they cou

jim sciutto is with me here in tel aviv, obviously, south of beirut, general mark hertling also joins us jim, let me just start with you. when we talk about this imminent strike that. israel is determining its targets and keeping very close to the vest even from its closest ally. there are a lot of strikes. possible strikes that israel could hit inside iran, nuclear stray, nuclear locations, oil installations, the actual regime itself, which a lot of people in this country have been pounding the table saying, this is our moment to dip ahead. the monster as they see it. can you walk us through what these targets? it's could be, perhaps a combination of some of these targets. >> let's begin with nuclear and there are multiple nuclear sites around their, around iran. and by the way, that's deliberate because they don't want them all in one place because they don't want it easy to be taken out, their facilities to be taken out in one blow. let's zero in on one of them in particular, is for khan this is a nuclear research facility production facility is for isfahan in the central part of i

operations in southern lebanon, bringing the total number to at cnn, chief national security analyst jim sciuttoel aviv and jim, this comes as israel is sending thousands more troops to take part in the ground fight. and lebanon this is a significant loss for the israeli military aid just in the first couple of days of this ground incursion into southern lebanon, which we should note, it's it's the first time in 18 years you have to go back to the 2006 war for when israel last send significant numbers of ground forces into southern lebanon. >> and to have this death toll, this early in those operations is a measure of the danger, the danger on the ground there as israel confirms france, hezbollah, not just from the air as we've seen with a significant number of airstrikes. but in ground combat, this comes as israel is considering retaliation for last night's unprecedented missile attack some 180 ballistic missiles fired here at israel. the vast majority of them shot down but some striking the ground, including around us here in central tel aviv last night joining me now is democratic congressman

this is cnn >> i'm jim sciutto live in jerusalem. we're continuing to track major developments in the middle east in the wake of israel's retaliatory strikes on iran overnight on friday is really investigators are now looking into what they call a deliberate attack. here in israel, this near tel aviv, a truck ran a new group of people near a military base at a bus stop their killing one and injuring more than 30 others. the idf says there was also an attempted stabbing attack on israeli soldiers this near jerusalem today all this after israel launched those strikes over we're overnight on friday into saturday morning sources tell me that some israeli warplanes have more than 100 that participated in those strikes breached iranian airspace during the operation, prime minister benjamin netanyahu spoke about it earlier today the fight is iran attacked israel with hundreds of ballistic missiles attack and failed we promised back then that we would respond. >> and then in the early hours of saturday morning, which we kept up some as well

launched and unprecedented barrage of ballistic missiles into israel, let's go straight to cnn's jim sciutto, who is joining us now from tel aviv. jim, the israeli prime minister is vowing revenge initially both us and israeli officials described this attack, this iranian attack is unsuccessful, that it had been defeated by israel. >> and while that's largely true in the aftermath as a damage assessment begins we are beginning in des see that some missiles struck, they struck the ground either close to their targets or even hit their targets. it does not appear they drew a great deal of damage at this point. but first we can show some video here from are coming around and israeli airbase to the east of east of where we are here in tel aviv. and in that video you can see that some of these missiles struck the ground. what you're seeing here actually these are in and around tel aviv. we do also have pictures from an airbase nearby. it is not clear whether there was significant damage to the airbase, but at least those missiles getting close to close to there that they were also images that we'

that iran will attack israel again, quote, if needs be seen and chief national security analyst jim sciutto is in tel aviv for us this morning. jim, bring us up to speed on the latest developments that israel was already fighting a multi-front war. really another reminder today that it is and on more fronts it seems every day there was a strike just in the last few hours, israel striking along the border between lebanon and syria. what it says were tunnels for bringing weapons from iran via syria into hezbollah in lebanon you add that to the strikes that we're seeing throughout beirut as well as in southern lebanon. that's one front. you've got the syria front. israel struck yemen, the houthi rebels in yemen in the last several days. that's another front strikes going on in gaza are striking the last 24 hours in the west bank by his israel. and of course, the consideration now of not if, but when and how extensively israel strikes back against iran. so, so as i list the fronts there, one thing that is clear as it's been since the start of the war, is that on each of those fronts, civilians

and here in tel aviv and with nic robertson jim sciutto, who are here with me and just obviously seconds ago, we were standing just off where we're sitting now and watching what it appeared to be. some sort of an interception, but almost over the water, hard to ascertain where it was coming from it did seem to be going out over the water. >> these intercepts were going quite low. they weren't going high, which tends to indicate that they're not going to high incoming missiles. that's how it's normally look when they're targeting so it makes a crazy impression. it's a drone. the last group to fire a drone and get it to tel aviv with the houthis from this direction down here in yemen. but they fluid up the coast, and it impacted just a few hundred meters from the u.s. embassy just down the coast us consulate, just down the coast from here. so we're that we're those houthi drone so to intercept tonight with heard fast jets out there now heard the explosions, heard helicopters a couple minutes ago? >> yes, we did. and i mean, it all happened very quickly, right? jim explosion after explosion
