jim? "james. >> jeanne: what is astounding as there are 17 egregious violations, this is not just a procedural error so when you listen to chris wallace'sxcellent interview, he made it seem as if this was some some sort of procedural error. to survey an american citizen who was working with the cia, who should never have been surveyed and who deserves an apology and i should just say, i saw on twitter before that our very own matt is -- people are trying to recruit him to take over the directorship of the cia next. >> harris: i wondered why you were trending. really quickly because you said when we were in a sound bite or maybe even in a break, forgive me because that conversation our audience didn't hear but i wanted you to be able to tell them what you were saying from the perspective of james comey doing this interview. you felt like he maybe didn't anticipate some of the things that were asked. >> it's astounding to me, it's as if he did not read the report thoroughly or at all and i thought the interview showed that. >> kennedy: that's what i thought after his op-ed. if they can included in that warrant application that carter page

director jim comey admitted that he was, quote, wrong on how the bureau kw used the foreign intelligence surveillance act in the russia investigation. in an interview just yesterday with chris wallacethe former fbi director was pressed to explain inspector general michael horowitz's report on fbi process, and here's what comey had to say. >> 17 significant errors in the fisa process, and you say that it was handled in a thoughtful and appropriate way? >> yeah, he's right. i was wrong. i was over confident in the procedures that the fbi and justice had built over 20 years. i thought they were robust enough. it's incredibly hard to get a fi fisa. i was over confident in those. there was real sloppiness, 17 things that should have been in the applications or at least discussed and characterized differently. it was not acceptable, so he's right, i was wrong. >> so of course the president tweeting in response to that interview in part this, so now comey's admitting he was wrong, but he's only doing so because he got caught red handed. he was actually caught a long time ago. so what are the consequences for his unlawful conduct? could it be years in jail? president trump had fired comey

wallace i have to say really challenged comey. david, do you think comey's interview helped or hurt the credibility of the fbi today? >> well, i think it helped the credibility of jim and i do think it helped the fbi. we haven't heard anybody say that and as long as i can remember it's always somebody else who's making mistakes, always somebody else who's screwed up. i join bill in saying i think he did the right thing, and there it is. if this happened on such a sensitive issue it really raises questions about the competence of some of these people in the fbi on other issues on other fisa requests and i think that has to be turowly explored upon by the justice department and in a way not intended to throw dirt on comey or anybody else. but i think the critical thing to still remember to come back to is what they found after a thorough investigation was it was not politically motivated, not a witch hunt and it was an honest effect to figure out what's going on here and on that they were plenty plainspoken. the intelligence of the institutions of this government unlike the white house still insists that we face major, major threats from the russians and from others
