. >> joining me now is international security analysts jim walsh.that simple, you want to be safe and give up privacy and be inconvenienced? is that what it is now? >> i was disappointed by the remarks by the president yesterday, and the one you led with, example one, the critics are not saying we need to have 100% privacy. the president also in that press conference said no, we are not listening in on conversations. he is responding to an allegation nobody is making. nobody is suggesting that government is listening to your conversations, and what they are doing is watching who your families are calling, and they keep it in a database and hold it for a very long time. at some point the government is going to have to step up and justify this. they are going to have to show that these sorts of surveillances against law-abiding americans does improve security. you can't get up and say we need it, you have to show it and without it there would have been harm. in other words, maybe there are other ways to protect americans that don't require this, but w
