jim sciutto. nick paton walsh is joining us now. he is inside, and i dont n't kn if you heard what the prosecutor has said, but you have done a lot of work reporting on the ringleader abaaoud abdelhamid, and the suspicion was that he was in syria some place with the leader of isis apparently a abubakar baghdadi, and give us with what information you can. >> well, the information this you can pick up inside of syria about the whereabouts of abaaoud abdelhamid, and i can tell you what was known about his past here. he was stopped back in 2014 thought to have at that stage joined isis, and may have traveled to the region earlier, and a number of notable appearances of him in the jihadist media here, and one troubling one that involved him dragging corpses behind a pickup truck. he is expect ted to have lived according to some media reports at a lavish village in aleppo, and also developed an alternate identity here inside of syria of abu u mar al baliki, and then there were reports that he may have been killed in october, because his f

i have jim sciutto and on the phone just outside of sinjar is nick peyton walsh. jim, first to you on this belief that the u.s. got this terrorist. what more do you know about the strike? >> they were filming him if for a good couple of days inside and around raqqa. they. picked up his trail some time before that, but they surveillance for a day and a half. when he came out of one of those stops, he was alone and fired a muscle sill, which what they can tell got him. they don't have boots on the ground to take a dna sample. they look at open source and social media sites to see if there's any announcement. they listen to communications to see if there's talk about this. they have human sources on the ground who will be checking it out as well. you look at syria. it's a place where the u.s. did not have a lot the of assets, not until the president just made a a decision to send boots on the ground. and it was viewed by some as an intelligence black hole. they have ramp ed up in recent weeks. to have this capability. they have had a number of successful strikes and t

walsh who is in irbil. we have breaking news from syria we've been reporting from jim sciutto and other where is dozens of air out in the isis stronghold of raqqah. nick, you are in irbil. there's been a lot of movement against isis in some of the areas there. what do you know about what's going on now? >> well, christiane, we are hearing both from a dependable organization inside of raqqah and also in up with hour alone there have been 30 air strikes against raqqah. now, the precise locations aren't entirely clear now, but raqqah -- a hospital, political building, to benchpotentially a that have been hit. i mention those names because since isis has taken over that may have changed entirely in carc trysting what though buildings do. of course we've seen air strikes like this similar in the past, seen so many air strikes against raqqah but of course typing question and i think has many wondering whether this is in relation to paris or maybe those who have been observing isis targets inside of raqqah in the past few hours have noticed targets of opportunity. but there has been an extraordinary uptick in the la

walsh, cnn, erbil. >> cnn international correspondent jim bittermann joins me with the latest on the reaction. minister this evening. >> manuel valls saying a lot about what's been taking place including strikes with french aircraft striking isis targets. he says they're going to continue throughout the week and maybe beyond that. he said they're going to ask for a state of emergency when they have this congress this afternoon that has the parliament together. it's a very extraordinary thing to have happen. they're going to bring the upper and lower houses together and he's going to ask for a three-month extension. the president's going to ask for a three-month extension of the state of emergency which allows them special policing powers, allows them to put the army in place of police on the streets, allows them to go through military courts instead of civilian courts, allows them to censor the press, gives them a firm hand on what's happening in the country. unusual. it's been done over the years, during the algerian conflict and other times, but it's pretty extraordinary measures. >> french
