jim grant, what's your initial reaction here?s also -- food up, housing up, wages also up. your reaction. >> well, i think this inflation is, if not intractable, it is going to be hard to push still lower. you know, the financial backdrop to this is interesting. the chicago federal reserve's ooh own index of financial conditions, very accommodative financial conditions. so the fed has been tightening. but, arguably, the fed is not yet tight. and i think what is pore stalling a genuine -- forestalling a genuine tightening move of the kind we saw is, for example, in the volcker years is the heavy leverage that is prevalent in corporate america. you know, the near decade of 0% interest rates instigated a lot of financial end kneeinger -- engineering that has introduced a great frailty in corporate america, especially in the private equity area. it's a difficult thing for the federal reserve to navigate. they deserve the difficulty, to be sure -- maria: yeah. >> but if you tighten too much, that is a problem. if you don't tighten eno

jim, your reaction? >> as you said, alicia, it's an attempted balance.s unfaced terrain, facing a criminal defendant who is simultaneously a candidate for president. the appeals court, much like judge chutkan, is trying to protect the rights for free expression, but also protect the integrity of the process. i see the logic here. the former president is allowed to criticize the process, criticize the motivation of the justice department and now after today jack smith. he can't challenge the integrity of the process or a potential influence on witnesses. so, again, we'll see a lot in this case. it's new terrain. it will be a lot of balancing going on. i think the appeals court has done a good job trying to strengthen that balance. >> like any other criminal defendant, mr. trump has a constitutional right to speak, and has millions of supporters as well as has millions of detractors have a right to hear what he has to say. also, like any other criminal defendant, mr. trump does not have an unlimited right to speak. michael, how do you see this playing out?

your debt. i know that's a big part of it. and look, jim and i have talked about this. say you guys, the airline stocks, you're the unloved children right now because of your debt levels. and whether that's fair or not, that's the perception that is out there. does that change this year? do you think that perhaps there's a little less of i don't think these guys can pay down their debt, to okay, they're making the moves that are needed to be made? >> we always have been known for finance fiscal, a strong balance sheet. we're the only airline that exited the pandemic with cash over debt. we have about $12 billion in liquidity compared to $8 billion in debt. we do have future debt towers that come in 2025 and beyond. so we're holding a little bit of cash in excess for that. but no, we have a very, very strong financial position. very strong balance sheet. >> one of the continual themes in everything that i read about you is margin improvement. margin expansion. some of that could come from ad spending. i know you had spent on letter x, which i found quizzical because that
