kelly, take us through the events that have been planned so far. >> reporter: well, it will all begin right in plains where jimmyt so much of his life, and so people in his hometown community who referred to him as mr. jimmy more than mr. president from the times that i have spent there. he will travel from plains to atlanta and, of course, a stop at the capital there is a reminder that he served as governor of georgia. and then there will be days of lying in repose at the carter presidential center so those who want to pay their respects in person, his fellow georgians will have an opportunity to do that. then there will be a chapter here in washington to recount, of course, his time in the white house and his time as a national political figure. he will lie in state at the u.s. capitol, and that is a rare honor that was provided by the house speaker and the leader of the senate, making way for that, another chance for people to pay their respects. that will culminate in the national funeral which will be on thursday, and president biden has called that a national day of mourning. so federal offices will be clo
