let's bring back our news nation political panel, jimmy williams, robert traynham. y, there is that seven-day tracking poll gallup has put out. the statistics say nine of the last ten leaders at the mark of 100 days out has won the election. what do you think? >> we're at 46-46 right now. >> i think the election will be at exactly that number. this is going to be a really close election. we are at 100 days. everything in my opinion is going to boil down to the debates. you remember in '08 mitt romney was not a great debater in the gop primary. in '12 he had some gaffs but came out stronger. this time he's going to go against a seasoned president. we'll see how he'll do. i don't know. that will teake that narrow sliver, that 8% to 10% and that will make up their minds. that will be the end of it. >> robert, is romney a stronger debater today than he was during the primary? >> absolutely. he's a much stronger debater now than he was four, eight or 12 years ago. he's been running for public office -- >> i mean just this primary. >> yes. the answer to your question, ther

let's bring in the power panel, a reporter for "the washington post" and jimmy williams, a democratic strategist and msnbc contributor and republican strategist, also an msnbc contributor. i will start with you. the rnc chairman holding a news conference in about a half hour. he is expected to accuse the president of being dishonest on outsourcing. he started. what is profiting this new angle of attack? >> partly "the washington post" had the story about what is essentially a broken promise. to eliminate for companies that shipped jobs overseas and hasn't been able to do that. what you are seeing is a real message that romney himself has been an outsourcer in chief in those ads and they have been effective and there has been hammering among republicans about mitt romney's lack of a defense. now today there is a sense that republicans are finally having a defense against this charge that has been so damaging to mitt romney. in many ways he got a lifeline with these recent stories about obama's outsourcing record in the white house. >> sorry this a direct response to the bain attack ads

jimmy williams. we had two williams last time. now we have two jimmys. we were just talking. heard the president now saying about obama care i didn't do it because it was popular. i don't think they knew then this would be the response. three years later. now he's doing what's right for the country at a cost to his political capital. that's the way it's framed now. that's a switch. >> the president is up for re-election. this is an election cycle. i would expect the president of the united states to spend any time he thinks will help him the best. after hillarycare you would think this white house would have learned the lesson that the theory of doing health care reform would be a double-edged sword. it should be a shock to no one on the panel or watching the show that health care is an unpopularity. at the same time the obama white house and the obama campaign have done a terrible job -- and i'm a democrat -- of saying what's good about the bill. if they don't start doing that -- >> why? they went into 2010 on a single congressional democrat ran a campaign ad for obama care.

nbc contributor and democratic strategist, jimmy williams. it's great to see all three of you.us susan, i want to start with you, because you're right in front of you. we have a small portion of the speech mitt romney will deliver this afternoon. it says, "if we do not have the strength or vision to lead, then other powers will take our place, pulling history in a very different direction. a just and peaceful world depends on a strong and just america." romney is going to be critical of the president on what he's doing for america as a whole, but internationally as its biggest representative. there's one thing about being critical on domestic soil, it's different about being critical on foreign soil. but does romney need to provide more of a laid-out agenda than just criticism. what is he going to do? what will his foreign policy look like as president? >> he definitely does have to lay it out. and like a lot of things, things aren't going to happen until after the convention. he's going on this tour, london, israel, poland. and it's going to certainly build up his credentials

let's bring in the associate editor and columnist for the hill, jimmy williams and msnbc contributor,well. good afternoon to both of you. abia, i want to read more about what the president said in his call. this is just an excerpt of that 18-minute call. saying in part, "in 2011, everything was new and exciting. now i'm the incumbent president. i've got gray hair and turns out change is hard. especially when you've got an obstructionist republican congress." should democrats be more concerned about the content of the call or the tone of that call? >> well, i mean, the tone is very humbled by his political position and he really feels that he's going to -- he directly says that on the call. he's going to be the first president to be outspent in his reelection if things don't change. and so i think that is a concern of democrats. democrats should worry about the -- forces intend to oust president obama and will stop at no amount of money to spend on commercials to do so. i think that the labor unions and democratic interest groups and big democratic donors have to be very concerned that

jimmy williams, we said with it for about six minutes, gentleman. we did not hear the president talk about today's dismal jobs report. he hasn't addressed him just yet. earlier today in hohio, it took him about ten minutes. we expect it will take him as long to get to it in pittsburgh as well. is that a fair assessment? >> the president can't run from the jobs numbers. i think frankly he ought to tout the fact that we are creating jobs as opposed to losing jobs, unlike his predecessor. and he should knowledge that it is tepid growth at the best, and he should talk about what he's going to do. the president has a different vision for the country than mitt romney does. and mitt romney thinks the same about barack obama. what i would like to see both candidates do is to lay out exactly and specifically their vision as to what they're going to do to get people back to work, middle class jobs. when of those 8.8 million jobs that were lost during the last recession, 96% of those jobs were middle class jobs. that's a huge, huge problem, a burden, an econom
