more on the fallout on last week's elections with jmwalsh.she joins us tonight from san francisco. an honor to have you on this program. >> my pleasure. tavis: speaking of fear driving, i have been asking this question. how much of these results last tuesday have to do with fear versus bankert? >> there is a lot of fear at this point which leads to anger. it leads to enter rather than analysis or inquiry. i think we see there have been people rolling up americans, telling them that everything the democrats are doing is putting social security or their savings at risk at a time of great anxiety. with all the misinformation and the rabble rousing and fear mongering, people react defensively. i may not have much, but i want to hold on to a. i do not want those other people to get it. that is never a good reaction. america it is stronger when we believe we can do things for one another with one another and we have a common purpose in terms of rebuilding our country and putting people back to work, educating our kids. we can do that again, but rig

jm i'm joined by lisa caputo who is founder and chair of citi's women and company.y from this study? >> we're seeing a big trend. everybody is taking a step back and taking stock of where they are and they're pulling back at the holidays, they're putting a cap on what they're going to spend during the holidays, which is probably not great for retailers. number one, number two, they're very concerned with their sav g savings and their debt and that's what's causing them to pull back. in other words, they're living within their means and they're not making the purchases that are the nice to haves, rather, they're making the purchases that are the must-haves and they're postponing the big purchases like big consumer electronics or big pieces of furniture. so, these changes we're seeing, we believe to be permanent changes among moms. >> this is the new normal. >> this is definitely the new normal. >> i myself as a mom are making these changes in my houshhold. >> you give your kids a lot of stuff and they only like one or two things long term that they like and end up us
