fire chief joanne hayes-white says she started in the fire department with perez and he will be missed. >> it's a huge loss. vince was a great guy. fun to work with. very capable. professional at all times on the job. and like i said, served his country in the marines, was a deputy sheriff. and he always said his dream job was to be a firefighter. and i enjoyed and felt honored knowing him. >> reporter: the firefighter who is fighting for his life is 53-year-old anthony valerio. he is a firefighter paramedic. he's in critical condition in the icu unit. the third firefighter who was injured is a woman. she has been treated and released. she was treated for smoke inhalation. a little bit more about lieutenant perez, who passed away. the union president says he was a firefighter's fireman. the first one in and the last one out. he's a san francisco native. we're told his mother is local and that she just couldn't bring herself to come here to the hospital after learning that her son died. we're also told that he has two brothers and they're both policemen, one here in san francisco and on
