jobina fortson live at pach >>> good morning.arly warning system could have helped places like the auto zone behind me here. it can give a couple seconds if not more in some cases. this warning system comes in two forms. this is the uc berkeley my shake app. i want to demonstrate how it works. you can see the blue dot is where i am. look at the 4.4. you can click on that, see where the most earthquake was recorded on the 14th if you tap that, you can tap if you've experienced this. it also has another way of letting people know as well using the wireless system that the amber alert system uses for those notifications. the shake alert system is already being used in l.a. it uses ground motion sensors across the state to detect an earthquake before we can feel them. my shake testing found most phones today can record earthquakes down to a magnitude of 5, which is moderate. california is the first in the nation to launch this statewide early earthquake warning system. i asked governor newsom yesterday about earthquake preparedness.

jobina fortson is live in pacheco. >> this auto zone in pacheco felt the last earthquake near her, witht, they could have gotten maybe a couple seconds warning, even as much as 20 seconds in advance in some cases. to get an idea of how this all works, warnings will be pushed through two delivery systems, a cell phone app called my shake and the same wireless notification system that issues amber alerts, so people may receive both notification. the shake alert system is being used in l.a. it uses ground motion sensors across the state to detect an earthquake before we can feel them. my shake testing found some or most phones today can record earthquakes down to a magnitude of 5, which is moderate. california is the first in the nation to launch this earthquake early warning system. >> think about it. we have a warning for hurricanes, tornadoes, other situations, cold weather storms, now we have a warning system for an earthquake. >> coming back out here live, i downloaded the app so
