let's bring in our jodi hernandez live in antioch. and jodi, are there recent crimes going on leading to this newest proposal? janelle, there have been a number of recent scary incidents. you may remember earlier this month, a woman was attacked from behind by a man who slashed her in the face and the neck as their train approached. san francisco's mission station. and then just on wednesday, there was a fatal shooting right outside the embarcadero station and once again, another incident last night here in contra costa county. that incident was caught on camera by a witness. we're going to roll it. that happened aboard an antioch bound train. that incident again was caught on camera. witnesses say a teenager pepper sprayed a woman in the face after words were exchanged between a group of teenagers and the woman that pepper spray got all over the train, causing other riders to go home with stinging eyes and lungs. definitely a rattling experience for those commuters. so, jodi, have you spoken to riders? they want more police officers?

in vallejo, jodi hernandez, nbc, bay area news. our other top story tonight, there is a mess unfolding in san mateo county. the drama continues and the plot thickens. there are new accusations and an arrest now, as conflicts and controversy swirl within the san mateo county sheriff's department. tonight, two major developments. county supervisors are calling for the sheriff, christina corpus, to resign, citing a newly released independent review that found multiple issues with her leadership and the department at the same time. a sheriff's deputy who has been one of the sheriff's main critics has been arrested. this all started with allegations from the deputy sheriff's association against sheriff corpus chief of staff victor oholone. employees allege intimidation, retaliation and unfair labor practices that ended with the union issuing a no confidence vote against her chief of staff. county supervisors then hired retired judge ladoris cordell to lead an independent investigation. soon after that began, sheriff corpus fired her ass

let's bring in our jodi hernandez. jodi is live by the lake. this has a lot of conservationists really excited. tell us why. well, conservationists are incredibly excited. this is really rare. the salmon sightings began last week, and so far, naturalists have been able to recover four dead salmon that have either washed up on the shore or been found dead in floating in the lake. and they even spotted one swimming around in the water. the salmon are making their way from the bay through the lake. merritt floodgates, and then into the lake merritt channel. this is one of the largest number of salmon that have been seen in lake merritt in recent memory. so people are very excited about this. so, jodi, when is the last time salmon were actually spotted in lake merritt? well, i am told that they were last spotted in 2021. and that was also really, really rare. now that was before the green algae bloom. you may remember that killed off many other species of fish there. now, i am told again there have been 6 to 8 salmon that have been seen just in the

i'm jodi hernandez, nbc, bay area news. thank you jodi. you can go inside now. all right. other headlines. we're following tonight. more turmoil inside the san mateo county sheriff's office. five captains from inside the department are joining the calls for sheriff christina corpus to resign. this is after a 400 page independent report that accused the sheriff of fostering a culture of fear and retaliation, and for having an inappropriate relationship with her chief of staff. today's announcement from the captains now means that with the exception of the undersheriff, sheriff corpus, his entire command staff has now either resigned or called for her to resign. we stand here today in appreciation for supervisor mueller and the board of supervisors, who have given a voice to the voiceless within our organization and to show support for the men and women of the sheriff's office who continue to show up to work and do a tremendous job every day under difficult circumstances. now the sheriff is refusing to walk away and has repeatedly insisted that she's done nothing wrong. earl

we want to bring in our jodi landis live in fairfield. jodi. what happened? i mean, that sounds terrifying. yeah. jess, what happened out here is truly horrific. fairfield police say a man was simply walking through the parking lot of the solano town center here late yesterday morning, when he was run over multiple times, repeatedly by a man in a white pickup truck. now, police say a witness followed that truck as it drove away, calling 911. and thanks to that witness, police caught up to the suspect a few miles away and arrested him. the 25 year old suspect is a fairfield man who police say has a history of mental health calls. he now faces murder and hate crime charges. i asked police why the hate crime charge? they said that they could not discuss it because it is an ongoing investigation. they also still have not released the identity of the victim. okay, so first of all, right off the bat, this must have been terrifying for the people that were watching this unfold. i do understand, though, even though we don't have a name that you spoke to the suspect's

in concord, jody hernandez, nbc, bay area news. in the south bay now a disheartening crime at a church in san jose. it was ransacked two nights in a row. it happened last week at the star of david church on bernal road. it's a ministry for people trying to leave the gang life and for the formerly incarcerated. the thefts have left the ministry with $20,000 in losses. they say in the two separate crimes, burglars took musical and electronic equipment used for sunday services and podcasts. it's hard times for everybody, we know that, but there's jobs everywhere. these guys got to get a job like like real people do. and they took the computer. they took all our sound system, they took our microphones for why they took our keyboard. it's quite a loss, we're told. several nearby businesses have also been vandalized or burglarized in recent days. the star of david church says it still plans to continue with the planned holiday food and toy drive, and will continue its youth outreach and sunday services. okay, if you're a pg&e customer, t

in vallejo, jody hernandez, nbc bay area news. all right. it's been weeks since election day, but as most counties wrap up their vote count, alameda county is facing new accusations related to both the vote and the vote count. seven of the candidates running for oakland's at large council seat are demanding an investigation. they want the county board of supervisors to call for an independent investigation into the election process, and they want it to happen before the results are certified december 5th. they say the digital ballot voters saw at the polls on election day did not list all ten candidates in the race on the same page, although the ballot featured a note telling voters there was a page two in the race, they say that wasn't enough. many also say they have questions about transparency and ongoing issues in counting and reporting votes. the campaign takes so much funding and energy, so i think every candidate should deserve to know the exact count what they are. i don't think that it would have made a difference in terms of rowena

here's nbc's jodi hernandez. reporter the salmon are making their way from the bay through these floodgates and into the lake merritt channel here. the unusual salmon sightings are causing a lot of excitement. yes, it was amazing when i heard it. i couldn't believe it myself. james robinson of oakland's lake merritt institute is almost giddy about the salmon that have been showing up at lake merritt. so far. four salmon have been recovered over the last week, and one was even spotted swimming in the water. i've been at the institute for over ten years, and this is only the second time me seeing chinook salmon in the lake. i'm not sure if they came all the way down here. we caught up with katie noonan this afternoon as she followed up on a reported salmon sighting on the shore. the rotary nature center volunteer recovered the four dead salmon. she's fascinated by their return. they're coming back using cues that they have to complete their life cycle. and they're coming into the center of oakland, right here to us

nbc's jodi hernandez reports from antioch.eporter the windows of antioch family first church are boarded up tonight after a scary early morning break-in. church pastor nick neves responded to a burglar alarm in the wee hours of the morning, only to come face to face with the intruder who had used an ax to smash his way in. and i shouted at him to stop and that the policeere going to be on the way and he ran, and i grabbed ahold of him and we ended up wrestling in the parking lot of the church. little did the burglar know, pastor neves is trained in martial arts. i like to stay fit and i've studied in some jiu jitsu and some kickboxing and mixed martial arts background. and so it was it was very helpful to be able to grapple with this gentleman without having to do much harm to him. after 12 to 15 minutes of wrestling, the burglar ran out of steam until police arrived. so i was able to pin him to the ground. you know, he got up and tried to get away several times, but basically just trying to wear him out. i thought i could out

nbc's jodi hernandez reports from antioch. the windows of antioch family first church are boarded up tonight after a scary early morning break-in. church pastor nick neves responded to a burglar alarm in the wee hours of the morning, only to come face to face with the intruder, who had used an ax to smash his way in. and i shouted at him to stop and that the police were going to be on the way, and he ran, and i grabbed ahold of him and we ended up wrestling in the parking lot of the church. little did the burglar know, pastor neves is trained in martial arts. i like to stay fit and i studied in some jiu jitsu and some kickboxing and mixed martial arts background. and so it was it was very helpful to be able to grapple with this gentleman without having to do much harm to him. after 12 to 15 minutes of wrestling, the burglar ran out of steam until police arrived. so i was able to pin him to the ground. you know, he got up and tried to get away several times, but basically just trying to wear him out. so i thought i could outlas

nbc bay area's jodi hernandez has the latest from contra costa county, where another troubling incidentk place. you're looking at video taken last night of a teenager pepper spraying a woman on bart after witnesses say a group of teens and the woman exchanged words. a witness described to us what happened. there was no like physical action that initiated a need for pepper spray. and then, just without any prompting, boom pointed it right in her face and pepper sprayed. and it went all over the inside of the train car. and several people got sprayed. it's just the latest troubling incident. earlier this month, a man attacked a woman from behind, slashing her neck and face as the bart train they were on approached san francisco's mission station. and on wednesday, a man was stabbed and killed just outside bart's embarcadero station. the attacks have prompted the bay area council to ask the governor to bring aboard the chp. the governor's team has responded that they want to help, but they have a there's a chp shortage. it's not at full staffing right now. bay area council's john grubb say

jody hernandez, nbc, bay area news. all right. i want to give you a live look at storm ranger. there it is, perched at this parking spot on the san bruno mountain. it is active. it is up and running, tracking that incoming storm. we're going to check in with chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. oka, so storm ranger is tracking this. what are we thinking about? the timeline and how will it cascade around the bay area? well, i think we're really not seeing any huge impacts tonight. we'll start to see that rainfall beginning to move in once we head into tomorrow morning over the north bay first. then this is going to start to step down here across the bay area. so what you're looking at on this first map is the storm system itself, which is going to be centered way off towards pacific northwest. but it's the atmospheric river that's tying into all of this that's going to help to boost this storm system up and give us those higher totals. there's the atmospheric river. it's that subtropical moisture tap that will bring us in some spots up into the north bay, four plus inches of rainfa
