let's get to jodi schneider, joining us now. it really is an interesting list. u take a look at 1300 products from malaria diagnostic tests to cassette players. tell us more about it. jodi: flamethrowers is the weirdest one. some things we are not sure why they are on their -- there. the u.s. trade representative's office said it is the products they see as having benefited practices, what the ministration is saying our unfair intellectual property practices. they are trying to make this said what they see as intellectual-property crimes, so they are largely targeting technology, but there are a lot of home consumer products. that hasn't some retail industry folks and others worried in the u.s. about the economic impact. representative's office said it is meant also to spare some industries. yvonne: we were thinking clothes, shoes would be put in there, but they were spared for now. the china response was harsh, they said they would scale the intensity. what would that look like? jodi: in the u.s. we are talking 1300 products, 25% tariffs, equaling $50 billion. i

jodi schneider joins us. what can we expect to find out from pompeo's meeting?ll us about the likelihood of a trump and north korea meeting? it certainly makes people more optimistic that a meeting will occur. it was just last month that president trump said he wanted to meet with the north korean leader, surprising many people. it would be an unprecedented meeting between the u.s. and north korea leaders. then he said he wants to do it soon. ofre had been a lot speculation about how this would be rolled out. now that a high level administration official, mr. pompeo, who is in charge of the cia is awaiting confirmation as secretary of state, the fact that he has gone there and met with leaders more optimism that this will occur. president trump said the timing was early june or before. they have begun discussing the location. not in beijing, not a north korea, not in south korea but somewhere in asia. somewhere like geneva which has hosted such things before. the topic of discussion and how much they will begin into the nuclear program and how deep the stocks wi

let's get to jodi schneider joining us in hong kong. does this signal a potential breakthrough? could if each it happens and the treasury secretary said he is considering a trip. he also met with the head of china's central bank at the imf meeting. they said they talked about central-bank issues, not trade. but this does signal perhaps a softening in the rhetoric. we have seeny, this ratcheting up of tensions. the u.s. started with steel and aluminum tariffs, not directed only at china but certainly partly at china. that has threatened to impose as billion in trade tariffs against china and chinese imports. china has retaliated and said it will impose $50 billion on u.s. products back and forth. just last week president trump said he was looking at additional restrictions using a 1977 law against china for what the u.s. -- yvonne: we saw things flaring up. jodi: the tensions have been going like this, now it seems at the treasury secretary is saying let's take a pause and at least consider talking more. of course this comes as the imf says the trade tensions are one of the risks
