nbc bay area's jodi hernandez joins us in vallejo this evening. jodi, what do we have tonight? >> reporter: raj, vallejo police say they fully expect to have the fbi and atf help in this investigation. they say evidence that they pulled from mayor osby davis' office has now been sent to an atf lab. meanwhile, the mayor is finally talking about what happened here. mayor osby davis talked to reporters about the arson fire for the first time this morning. he said he does believe the torching was political. while he would not elaborate on who he believes is behind it, he certainly has had plenty of critics through the years. he has most recently taken a lot of heat for a slew of officer-involved shootings. the mayor says whoever is responsible, he is determined not to let this steer him from his profession as a lawyer or from his duties as mayor. >> although i believe that the last criminal act is part of an escalating attempt to intimidate me, let me make it very, very clear. it has failed. i am not now nor will i ever be intimidated by such cowardly acts of vandalism or criminal

we are here today with bay area artist jody chanel, and we are here to see the plaza where your piece has just been installed. >> i have been doing large-scale paintings in the galleries and museums, and the idea that in the future, i could do something that would hang out a little bit longer than the duration of the installation the kind of appeal to me. i quickly found out about the san francisco arts commission school and realized there was a pre-qualified school you had to apply to, so i applied to the. >> how long did it take you to develop this work for the plaza? >> this was a fast track project. design development was about a month. >> let's look at the beautiful mural. i have never seen a mural created on asphalt. >> the heat of the asphalt, a new layer of asphalt. then, these wire rope templates that were fabricated for the line work get laid down and literally stamped into the asphalt, and then everything was hand-painted. >> maybe you could talk about some of the symbolism, maybe starting in the middle and working out. >> [inaudible] the flower of industry. >> it is like a

jodie was one of the researchers who found that not enough sleep can increase the risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes. >> what it could mean for people trying to lose weight is you might have more success if you're getting adequate sleep. >> reporter: they studied the cells of healthy people who got eight and nine hours of sleep. then they compared the results. they found that after four nights of four and a half hours of sleep, the subject's fat cells acted like those of someone 50 pounds heavier. >> what this study shows is you can really have metabolic defects at the tissue level when not getting enough sleep. >> reporter: proving that sleep isn't just beneficial for cognitive function but for overall health. so she says she plans on adding a good night's sleep to her health routine and sharing the information with her class. >> everybody needs to know all the facts about what they have to control, to handle or change. >> reporter: the good news is, after two nights of 12 hours of sleep, the subjects were able to reverse their risk for diabetes. the full study will be released in t
